The returning officer will collect and tally all votes for office bearers and committee members.

MA in WA
Posted on Thursday, May 6th, 2010
According to Gino Lombardi, Show Technology’s WA Branch Manager, the good technical people of Western Australia are always hungry for any kind of training Show Technology can offer and last month’s MA Training session was no exception quickly filling up.
Held at Show Technology’s Perth office, the event was headed by the MA Maestro himself – Vince Haddad who demonstrated on a MA2 lite kindly lent by WAAPA for the occasion. This was followed up with more in depth training.
Twelve operators or owners of grandMA consoles attended representing companies such as Corporate Theatre, AV Partners, Staging Connections, TLS, Nadam Events and also the Leederville Hotel.
”I picked up a lot on the video side of things and the other two guys who came with me are still learning the console so it was great for them,” commented Daniel Water, lighting designer for Corporate Theatre Productions. “They learnt a lot about setting up the console properly and things like networking.”
MA Training sessions will soon be held in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Check www.showtech.com.au for dates and booking details.

InfoComm International chooses its partners very carefully and there’s no doubt Integrate and its supporters will benefit from this exclusive relationship as we plug into the considerable expertise and connections of such a formidable international association. For our part, the Integrate team will continue to work tirelessly to raise the standards and the expectations of an event such as ours in this region.”
Jonathan Seller, InfoComm Regional Director, Australia & NZ, adds: “The feedback we had from our Australian members after the first Integrate in 2009 was that, finally, we had a local show that was the right fit for our industry. The event drew a mix of attendees from the whole supply chain, from manufacturer through to technology manager, and there was a substantial education offering. Part of the latter was a one-day, seven-seminar InfoComm Academy education day titled ‘Future Trends in AV Technologies’, which sold out to 110 delegates. For 2010 we will be increasing our education offering to all three days of the show, with workshops on digital signage and videoconferencing among the highlights.
“We are therefore delighted to have formalised our relationship with Alchemedia Events and are looking forward to working with them to develop and grow Integrate in the years to come.”
Peter Swanson, CTS, Chair of InfoComm’s Asia Pacific Council, adds: “Integrate has been doing a great job of providing a central focus for our industry and the news of the co-operative agreement with InfoComm is another exciting step on the journey. To me, it’s a logical step following the mutual support the two organisations have provided each other with to date, and I believe it will help to make the annual show an even more valuable experience for our local market.”
Integrate identified the synergies in the professional sound, light and vision industries and brought these sectors together with great support from the AV systems integration community and live events sector. Following a successful launch in 2009, Integrate set a new benchmark for events of this kind in Australia.
Anticipation is building for the upcoming Integrate event in August 2010, taking place from the 24th – 26th at the Hordern Pavilion and Royal Hall of Industries, Sydney.

Two major Industry Events collaborate on joint positioning
Posted on Monday, March 29th, 2010
Organisers of the co-located SMPTE and ENTECH INTECH events have launched an exciting umbrella positioning that unites the two events to promote the best in pro audio, lighting, audio visual, media, and broadcast technologies.
SMPTE Conference and Exhibition is the premier event for suppliers to the motion picture and television industries in the South-East Asian region. SMPTE has a defined focus and visitors attend from the motion picture/film, digital media, television, radio, ICT, pre and post production industries. Attendees are also from the display and projection, video production, pro-audio, multimedia, editing, test equipment, SFX and lighting industries.
ENTECH INTECH is the longest running trade show within the stage and lighting sector in the Southern Hemisphere. ENTECH’s industry audience includes those working within the professional audio, lighting, broadcast, audio visual, staging products, integration and corporate AV, supplies, and services industry.
The two events remain independent and will operate separately within the industry to develop relevant content for both SMPTE and ENTECH INTECH Exhibitions and Conferences, which will run concurrently at the Sydney Conference and Exhibition Centre from July 19 – 22, 2011.
The newly-developed positioning is The Australasian Media and Technology Week, beginning in Sydney in July 2011. The co-located events will be a biennial showcase and gathering of industry professionals.
The positioning is designed to facilitate cross-promotion of each event in the lead up to 2011. The development of an umbrella positioning across the two brands of SMPTE and ENTECH INTECH will assist in promotion and communication with all visitors, especially those based interstate and overseas.
This collective initiative has been established by the many hard-working stakeholders eager to share in the success of the highly-anticipated event.
“We are excited that the ENTECH event will be beside us during SMPTE11. With approximately 15 per cent of the visitors attending both events, this will allow time-poor visitors to be able to see an amazing array of technologies under one roof. Having the SMPTE and ENTECH conferences running simultaneously will also give industry professionals greater opportunities to learn and develop their careers,” said Ward Hansford, SMPTE’s Australian Chair.
“The combined efforts and determination of the event organisers of these events will see the dawn of a new era in trade events for the industry,” said Gary Fitz-Roy, CEO of Expertise Events, the organisers of SMPTE Conference and Exhibition.
Robby Clark, Event Director for ENTECH INTECH said: “We are working with Expertise Events and the SMPTE Board to create a sustainable multi-platform event that will provide real return on investment for exhibitors and genuine attending value for visitors from Australia, New Zealand, South East Asia and beyond.”
The Australasian Media and Technology Week, encompassing both SMPTE and ENTECH INTECH, will host a range of technical conferences, educational workshops and seminars, as well as networking dinners and functions.

ALIA Tour to Lady Gaga Melbourne – tomorrow!!
Posted on Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010
She’s played three NSW shows and everyone is raving about the production so a backstage lighting tour has hastily been arranged for lucky Melbourne lighting folk!
“Last year, Sydney got its first taste of the Lady Gaga live experience. There were elaborate backdrops, crisply choreographed dance routines and enough risque outfits to make even Madonna, Gaga’s spiritual grandma, blush.
And that was just for a handful of songs opening for the Pussycat Dolls.
She’s back, as promised, with a show that makes that brief but thrilling set look tame.
The Monster Ball – as this tour has been dubbed in support of Gaga’s album, The Fame Monster EP – is a four-act concept show apparently about a quest to get to the ultimate party. At times it feels like a rave hosted by Satan himself.
For the most part, this spectacular show is a scintillating mash-up of art, cabaret and shameless, fun pop.” Sydney Morning Herald.
The show is designed by the legendary LeRoy Bennett and directed by Cory FitzGerald. Cory is using a rig that includes PRG bad boys, VL3000 spots, VL3500 washes, GLP Impressions, Martin Atomic strobes and Hungaroflash t-lights.
Where: Rod Laver Arena
When: Wednesday March 24th
Time: 2pm
If you would like to attend this tour, please read the ALIA Tour Protocol, then email your name, and mobile phone number to tours@alia.com.au.
