After using a MA Lighting grandMA lite for a few months, Peter Darby, Victorian Opera’s Technical Coordinator, has now added a MA onPC command wing to his lighting inventory.
“As a number of Victorian Opera’s productions are going into venues that do not have an in-house lighting console, the wing becomes a tracking backup system for a grandMA lite,” said Peter. “We also do a lot of regional touring and education shows, and the MA onPC command wing is ideal for that.”
Peter describes the command wing as ticking all the boxes – a small, portable solution, for a fraction of the cost of the full size grandMA.“However, it still packs a powerful punch and works flawlessly when combined with a larger MA,” he added.
As the MA onPC command wing needs to be connected to a computer, Peter is using a custom mini server from Show Technology originally designed to run coolux but small enough to fly with in hand luggage. Peter uses the mini server and a couple of ELO touchscreens to run both MA onPC and MAon3D.
“The custom mini server also gives me the potential to run coolux in the future, if I so desire” commented Peter. “It’s a terrific system. You can tuck the MA onPC wing under your arm and hop on a plane. Plug it into your laptop or in this case the mini server and you have the full programming power of a grandMA behind you.”
The equipment was supplied by Lightmoves, chosen according to Peter, because of the impeccable level of support they deliver.
“They really know how to look after clients,” he remarked. “Show Technology as always has been terrific to deal with, particularly Simon Barrett who has been fantastic through the entire process.”
