The Spirit of Maori Rugby

Established in 1852, the Auckland Museum tells the story of New Zealand, its place in the Pacific and its people. The Museum is a war memorial for the province of Auckland and holds one of New Zealands top heritage libraries.

It is home to millions of objects and is one of New Zealands most popular man-made tourist attractions with around half a million visitors every year.

Auckland based Lighting Supply Company has recently supplied 24 ILED Pro EventLITE fixtures to Auckland Museum, which will be used for lighting many special events happening in the Museum, such as gallery openings, corporate events, etc.

The EventLITE is a rugged & universal fixture that can be used for both entertainment and architectural applications. Its powerful battery and efficient design deliver up to 12 hours or more of constant use in RGB operation. This stylish, compact and powerful fixture comes complete with a Wireless Solutions W-DMX receiver card installed, making it ideal for many kinds of remote/temporary events.

Auckland Museum put the EventLITEs to work straight away for the opening night of the new exhibition: Ake Ake Kia Kaha: The Spirit of Maori Rugby. The official opening was held the night before the Rugby World Cup kicked off in New Zealand (Friday, September 9th).

Ake Ake Kia Kaha (translated as “forever and ever be strong): the spirit of Maori rugby exhibition features personal interviews with Maori players from teams spanning the last five decades, from All Black Hosea Gear, who missed out on selection for the RWC side, to Buck Shelford, Tane Norton and Muru Walters. The exhibition also shows a souvenir ball signed by George Nepia, game badges and the Prince of Wales Cup, which the Prince presented to the M?ori side after impressive play during a tour of Australia, Ceylon, France, Canada and Great Britain in 1927.

The EventLITEs were used during the opening night to light the Grand Foyer of Auckland Museum, providing the special atmosphere for the event. Justin Knox from ULA Group comments: “The EventLITEs are an elegant solution for the Museum on so many levels – importantly they really enhance the space, and are fast and are a simple “wire –free” set up. ULA Group and Lighting Supply were very pleased to assist the museum, being able to meet their requirements within a day from stock on hand in Auckland”.

Ian Crawshaw, Audio Visual Manager from Auckland Museum, adds: “Great service from the team, who knowing the problems we face in a heritage building of stone and marble, came up with an elegant, fast and safe solution”.
