Technical Theatre Traineeship

Situated three hours north of Melbourne in Albury Wodonga, HotHouse Theatre is regional Australia’s most prestigious professional theatre company and receives operational funding from the Australia Council, Arts Victoria and Arts NSW.
HotHouse Theatre’s 2 year Full Time Technical Traineeship includes training in design, and operation in sound, lighting, props and sets, as well as venue and equipment maintenance. This training leads to accreditation via TAFE in units from the Entertainment Training Package, and is delivered and assessed on the job.
The trainee will become a member of the HotHouse Theatre full time staff and participate in all company activities. They will be working in a culturally diverse environment and undertake basic work tasks in an entertainment industry context.  They will be supervised by the HotHouse Theatre Operations Manager.
The overall structure, delivery and assessment of training is flexible and holistic and is built around HotHouse Theatre’s schedule of productions. Selection of modules and timing of assessment is determined in consultation between HotHouse Theatre, Riverina TAFE and the trainee.
The qualification is designed to meet a broad range of industry needs, technical multi-skilling plus specific, specialized streams to suit chosen job outcomes (eg audio, stage management, lighting operation).
Selection Criteria
Desire to build a career in technical theatre
Genuine desire to build new skills
Ability and willingness to undertake hard physical work, including manual lifting and working at heights
Ability to self motivate, show initiative and work as a team player
Ability to take direction
Preparedness to deal with sweat, dirt and cobwebs
Aptitude for work with theatre technology
Willingness and availability to work long and flexible hours
Preparedness to undertake touring involving periods away from home
Sense of humour
Current drivers licence or readiness to acquire
