Technical Director/Technical Production Manager

Crown Entertainment Complex Melbourne

Staging Connections is Australia’s largest Audio Visual and Event Staging Company. We are pleased to welcome applications for the role of Technical Director/Technical Production Manager based at Crown in Melbourne.

Reporting to the Head of Production, this senior role is to provide high end technical and event expertise for the entire event production process from the event inception through to the final delivery.  This role is also responsible for the effective supervision of crew in the delivery, installation, operation and removal of audio visual equipment required to operate shows of any size and difficulty.  This role also acts as a critical resource for technical consultation and advice to the business.

Key responsibilities are:

  • Develops event objective – reviews and develops event proposals in co-ordination with Account Managers and Event Managers
  • Develops and maintains event schedule within specifications estimating labour, equipment and transport requirements
  • On site event management – communicates show brief to venue, crew and suppliers on the day of event and co-ordinates event progress to meet client expectations
  • Ensures quality control through following job checking procedure
  • Ensures appropriate costs are recharged to specific jobs including production, double time, site surveys, crew overruns
  • Keep breast of industry trends through researching industry publications and attending trade exhibitions to analyse and compare equipment and new products for the purposes of purchasing
  • Mentor and motivate the crew to achieve their objectives
  • Identify roadblocks that impact the performance of the individual or the team and resolve or escalate as appropriate

Essential criteria to be successful in this position are:

  • Thorough technical understanding of equipment
  • Good understanding of 5 star banquet operations and large entertainment venues/spaces
  • Ability to work within constrained budgets with limited resources
  • People Management/Leadership skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent decision making skills
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
