Impact AV Australia provided an audio visual design and installation for the new function centre at Merewether Surfhouse in Newcastle. The design was specific to suit the low ceilings and the high ambient light from the glass exterior walls. Also this design had to create a flexible audio visual environment for various room layouts in the multi-room facility.
The lighting system was designed to provide maximum flexibility in a corporate function centre. Silas Creel, Impact AV Australia’s Managing Director, decided that the Martin smartMAC was the ideal fixture for such a venue due to its fan-less feature using alloy heat sinks to dissipate heat and thus reduce the noise levels inside the venue. The smartMACs also have the wider lens angles for the short throws. A total of eleven were installed.
“The smartMACs also offer long lamp life and low maintenance which is great for any venue,” commented Silas. “The smartMACs are so versatile, easy to use and the ease of switching out gobos is great. They can really kick out an impressive show of multiple effects and colour.”

130 metres of Pro Shop Tri Colour LED strip lights (30 LEDs/m) were installed in the coffered ceiling section for a coloured roof wash. With the flick of a switch, the venue can be transformed by a variety of colour washes which is great for themed events and parties.The LED strips are controlled by Pro Shop low-voltage PSU & DMX controllers allowing colour changes and various light levels.
