Show Technology chosen for premier venue

Doltone House Hyde Park is a new meeting and events venue that boasts 5 metre high ceilings with an abundance of natural light via floor to ceiling spectacular windows and uninterrupted views of Sydney’s Hyde Park.

The designer Sydney CBD venue, by leading architect Koichi Takada, includes a sweeping staircase of double stitched black leather, gold mirrors and intricate tiling creating a luxe interior, along with purpose made unique crystal chandeliers representing a modern interpretation of old-world glamour in the main ballroom.

The Hyde Park Ballroom blends heritage features of the grand arched windows, three stunning sandstone fireplaces, with a dramatic contrast of black and gold highlights. The use of rich black and metallic tones is offset with neutral creams to give a fresh, clean and unquestionably sophisticated elegance.

The contemporary elegance is transpired to the Manhattan and Avenue Rooms and offers a lighter palette of creams combined with sapphire blue in New York style. Traditional hospitality meets the innovative and new to create the ultimate in contemporary chic.

Microhire are in charge of the in-house audio-visual requirements for this luscious venue and their lighting concept was to ensure that every angle was covered in the Ballroom.

“We didn’t want to have to use scissor lifts in the space so it was important to get as many fixtures as we could into the ceiling to save on set up costs further down the track,” commented Thomas Armati. Microhire’s General Manager. “We needed a good spread of both spots and wash moving head units and whilst it may not be the most creative of designs, it is very effective and versatile.”

Thomas chose 14 Clay Paky Alpha Spot 300’s as his spot fixture citing their brightness, impressive colour range and compact dimensions as attractive features.

“The Alpha Spot 300’s were easy to install and are quiet to run,” added Thomas. “We’ve really enjoyed using the gobos as they are fresh and new to us having always had Martin spot fixtures in the past.”

To compliment to Alpha Spot 300’s Thomas chose 14 Martin MAC Aura LED wash fixtures mainly because the units are positioned close to the audience and he believed that their aura effect would be the best option.

“The effect of a homogenous coloured ‘lens’ look was deemed more appropriate than the large pixel look of some of the other ‘dinner plate’ style of LED washes on the market,” he remarked. “I like the broad zoom range of the Aura, the speed of the pan and tilt and the colours are great. The RGB white offered by the MAC Aura gives you a whole new range of options.”

A MA Lighting MA onPC command wing was chosen for control.

“The price of the MA onPC command wing is very affordable and it offers all the control that we need,” said Thomas. “As we have MA consoles in our other venues, the MA onPC command wing is a control surface that everyone is familiar with. However, it’s very easy to learn and the amount of features offered compared to other consoles is astounding.”

The venue has been operational for over six months and Thomas reports that the Alpha Spot 300s, MAC Auras and MA onPC command wing have all performed flawlessly.
