The Business Unit

Production enables the delivery of Arts Centre Melbourne and visiting artist performing arts events wherever they may take place. Production comprises staging, lighting, wardrobe, stage management, Lighting, safety, training, digital arts, events and technical team members.

Current Position Opportunity

Senior Lighting Technicians work individually or as part of a team, providing technical expertise and support for the Lighting Supervisor and presenters.

They assist in overseeing Lighting staff and participate in the operation of Lighting equipment for pre-production, rigging, rehearsal, performance, recording, and de-rigging of shows and events in line with presenters budgeted schedules.

Typical duties performed at this level may include, but not be limited to, the following:

•Extensive knowledge of theatre Lighting control hardware and software including consoles, followspots, intelligent fixtures etc.
•Experience dealing with Directors and Lighting Designers
•Operation of Lighting equipment across all venues
•Delivering procedures and practices to comply with safety requirements
•Provide technical support and guidance to presenters in the delivery of the Lighting Department outcomes
•Participating in event & venue documentation including fault reporting and consumables, charges, venue and equipment maintenance
•Assist in the development of staff, through active guidance and direction especially in the areas of ‘in house’ equipment, manual handling techniques and ensuring new staff are aware of the day to day operational procedures used in our venues

Applicant requirements

To be successful in this role applicants must possess a relevant Diploma or higher at a recognised institution or equivalent experience working within the entertainment industry.

Qualifications in Basic Rigging, Forklift, Fire Emergency Warden, Test & Tag, Elevated Work Platform, Occupational Health and Safety and `in house’ equipment relevant to the position are preferred.
