Martin smartMACs and LightJockey for Bar100

Bar100 is Sydney’s newest entertainment precinct. Spanning three levels of bars, dining and function spaces, Bar100 is an inspiring fusion of old, new and magnificent. Breathtaking cathedral ceilings and bespoke chandeliers make the space striking and indulgent.

With an extensive selection of beverages and cuisine, glamorous surroundings and iconic views, this exciting new venue embodies the very best attributes of the harbour-side city.

Bar100 is home to four chic bars: The main bar, BAR100, and The Chapel are on the ground floor, and equate to party central, while up a glass elevator is an exquisite VIP floor and bar, 1909. 8Brothers along with The Terrace and The Sunroom, a 120-seater restaurant located on the ground floor encompass a relaxed and formal dining atmosphere.

AVents Solutions were contracted to design and act as AV project manager for all of the audio visual elements into this striking venue including six Martin smartMAC fixtures that are located within the main bar. The Martin smartMAC is a 150 W moving head profile that outperforms many of its 250 W rivals and offers unprecedented reliability, longer service intervals, total silence and smaller power bills.

“The smartMACs are used to create decorative moods within the main bar,” explained Greg Cartagena, principal of AVents Solutions. “They add light, colour and movement. Each smartMAC has six gobos and we intend to add custom gobos so that the venue can tailor its look to various clients. For example brands can be exposed during particular functions.”

Greg chose the smartMACs for their smooth movement, low power consumption, quality of light and noiseless operation as well as Martin’s reputation for quality, reliable products.

“There are not a lot of parts that can break down plus they are easy to clean,” said Greg. “They have less moving parts than some of the larger models but we didn’t need anything more. It’s not a discotheque rather a lounge bar.”

Control is via Martin LightJockey 2 software run off a laptop which Greg describes as simple to program.

“We’ve set up preset buttons on the laptop so that management can just press a couple of buttons to change the sequence of the light shows,” he remarked. “It’s easy to operate, allows as many presets as we need to create custom shows and the operator doesn’t need to be a lighting technician to create the right mood at the right time.”

LightJockey 2 is a flexible, easy-to-use Windows-based controller utilizing a USB to DMX Interface. One of the industry’s most popular PC-based controllers for well over a decade, LightJockey 2 offers lighting designers greater flexibility, spontaneity and ease of use in a user-focused control package.
