Martin M1 lands in the Northern Territories

Dreamedia Events is one of the Northern Territory’s premier conference, meetings and special event coordinator and as business is booming for them, the decision was taken to upgrade their aging lighting consoles.

“We looked at the Jands Vista and the Martin M1 but it appeared that the Martin M1 was the more widely used and specified console,” commented Chris O’Brien, managing director of Dreamedia Events, on the decision to go with the Martin M1 console. “Basically it was a good business decision.”

Chris reports that the console has not skipped a beat and its first appearance was at a concert for Jessica Mauboy in front of 4500 people. Since then their Martin M1 has provided control for gala events, fashion shows, sporting events – in fact it has worked consistently since arriving in the hire department.

“My guys tell me that the M1 is very easy and quick to patch in comparison to the old Jands consoles we used to have,” Chris said of the compact yet all-in-one lighting controller. “I reckon any operator can patch the console and check the fixtures with very little experience on the M1 console.”

Whilst Chris admits that it has been an adjustment for his crew switching to the M1 as they are starting with a raw template, he has no doubt that they love their new console.

“The M1 really is a tool that you build on each show and make it your own, rather than an off the shelf product,” he said. “Other aspects of the Martin M1 that the crew  favour include the layout of the console, the ability to easily grab things on the fly if needed plus its small weight and size.”

The M1’s growing popularity stems from a design based on simplicity combined with a fast dual-core processor that ensures an extremely responsive user interface. The easy-to-use concept and portable package has struck a chord with lighting programmers and designers across the globe.

Chris revealed that the chances are high that he will purchase another Martin M1 console within the next six weeks!
