If you are buying Lighting or DJ equipment from anyone that you don't know personally, or who is not listed as a business, please be careful not to make the payment for the goods without receiving, at the very least, a hardcopy receipt for the payment. If possible, arrange to collect and inspect the goods at the time of payment.

There have been several cases recently where a Melbourne-based "dealer" has taken money, via direct bank deposit to an ANZ account, and not supplied the goods that were paid for.

If you know any more about this person, who uses email accounts on either optusnet.com.au or more recently on iprimus.net.au and who claims to trade from an address in Surrey Hills (vic), please contact Andy Ciddor, as we are assembling evidence to pass on to the Police for investigation.

Be careful out there.

Andy

Well, as a matter of fact, I live in Surrey Hills, and have no knowledge of anyone dealing in lighting/DJ equipment. As I did some extensive reasearch looking into prices for a school production hire.

If you need any help from a local, don't hesitate to drop me a line.

The details of this guy, including his name, bank account number, home and mobile phone numbers, eBay account details and email addresses have now been passed on to the Fraud Squad for further investigation.

We have chosen not publish this information as the matter is under investigation and we aren't anxious to risk compromising the Crown's case in any way.

If anyone suspects that they may also have been involved, or are currently involved, in dealings with this person, please contact me via email or PM and I will let you know if it is the same person. That's about the most help we can offer at this stage.
