I'm sure you've all heard about or saw yourself the fire ignited by pyro at the top of the arts centre spire on NYE.

From what I could see the pyro packs had a wood backing and were ratchet strapped to the structure... then, of course, fell to the ground once that had burned through.
Can anyone confirm this was the method of rigging?
Were there metal safeties used?

We had a good giggle at whoever tried to put it out by pointing a sky-tracker at it Razz

I thought it was interesting that the head of the Arts Centre was saying all went well because they followed a pre determined plan to cover things like this.

Because on the news footage I saw, all the little lights on the spire were still on, meaning that there was live power up there which could of shorted to the spire if the fire was close to the wiring.

That said all the talk of of not happening fireworks is a moot argument because this sort of thing is a by product of the use of fireworks, which are controlled explosions and occasionally no matter how much care is taken , things like this can happen when dealing with this technology.
