For those of us who were at the Dido tour last week, I'm sure we all noticed the two generators outside and all the powerlock leads running inside. And, since the LD Andi Watson had no idea what they were there for, I'm sure some of us wondered what the hell they were doing there.
Turns out the Eagles people had some special uses for them - the DVD was filmed over the last couple of concerts here in Melbourne, and the Americans wanted their own video equipment to be used here, as well as their own LX lights (not FOH, since Bytecraft had already bumped those in before the Dido show). So these generators are actually running at 60Hz rather than Australian 50Hz, so that they can use their own cameras and LX lighting.
Also heard that the workers from an anonymous contracted company spent half an hour running some powerlock cables before realising they were back to front. Then again, I got confused with the splits on the audio multicores on a gig a few weeks ago, so I can't say anything without that little disclaimer lol.
But are two genny's enough to run video as well as the stage lighting? We were guessing that their overhead stuff would be pretty huge considering there were already about 80 movers (Mac 2k's i think?) out in the audience alone.

The sole reason for using the generators was as stated to get the lamp cycles at 60 Hz. The DVD was being shot in a HD format that ran at 24fps instaed of 25fps. It was also one of the first HDTV multicam OB's attempted in Australia.

World renouned Television and Event LD, Bob Dickinson was bought out to adapt Nick Sholem's excellent design to TV.

There was no need to put the video was already running 120V 60Hz via transformers. The production ran off one gennie pulling about 400 amps and the audience lights were running about 500 amps. )Per Phase)

As for the cables, it was not all the crews fault as the unnamed generator company wired the wrong sex tails in
