Martin Eureka 3D

Eureka 3D is a real time sound modeller that creates sound generated images. The Eureka 3D system is designed to add realtime video effects to a video wall, projection screen or video-monitor.
All the functions are controlled by DMX-512 (32 channels). The sound-input is used to deform the 3D objects in realtime.
The Eureka 3D system behaves like a DMX-fixture with 32 channels:
- FADERS for luminance of video output, SOUND and LIGHT for 3D objects.
- PAN/TILT and ZOOM functions for the 3D camera position.
- GOBOS (Windows bitmaps BMP or Video IN) for backgrounds and mappings for 3D objects.
- RGB channels for the FOG between the background and 3D objects.
- COLOUR video filters changed by music or manual.
- 3D objects (Logos, faces, cylinders, cones, bottles,...) deformed by music.
- 2D and 3D texts can be "LIVE" added.
For the first time video-animation/logo-projections can be controlled by DMX-512. For the user it's just another DMX-fixture.
Applications include:
Product presentations: The LD can now project logos, pictures on video with the light controller, instead of using expensive gobos with fixtures.
TV-productions: Can use the colour filter effects, 3D objects for backgrounds.
Events: Sponser logos, video effects, live video and lights can be mixed together from one showlight controller.
Discos: Video animations, special effects can be programmed together with the lights for a perfect synchronised lightshow.

Coemar FLEX series

Coemar's lab in Italy has developed three fixtures that they believe will set new standards in our industry. Coemar did some pre testing in the market already and the feed back was nothing less than great, they claim. Coemar also claim that these powerful units have more light output and more features than any moving head on the market. Coemar's brains and creators behind the FLEX also came up with 3 new patents (pending) and some of the features include:
1. Built in Barn Doors in our iWash Flex light, enabling real shapes in a wash light (Patent Pending)
2. Adjustable light output minimizing the lumens differences between the white beam and a colored beam - we call it 'Best Color System' (Patent Pending)
3. Adjustable power from 1200W to 2K for multi task requirements (Patent Pending). This means three things:

A. It has the lowest power consumption in its class, thus saving the client a lot of money (actually the 2K FLEX units have a lower consumption than any 1200 Watt fixtures on the market today - even at 2K consumption level!). This is obtained partly by the adjustable power supply and partly by the built-in Power Factor Corrector (PFC)
B. It reduces the overall fan noise according to the power required, hence enabling the units to be very silent for low noise venues
C. The units are very flexible, covering all applications of lights from 700W, over 1200W, up to our new powerful 2K FLEX - all in one unit!

4. Many new effect combinations in the iSpot Flex and iProfile Flex - giving more possibilities, more options and more freedom to customise a performance than any existing comparable light, claim Coemar.

Dimmer Bug Squashed
LSC Lighting Systems has released software version V1.31 for its range of "e" and "i" Series of high performance entertainment based digital dimmers. These include the popular ePAK, ePRO, iPAK, iPRO dimmers and the e24 dimming system.
Version 1.31 provides a bug fix to cure a random flicker problem that can be seen in some dimmers. The bug was caused by a random conflict inside the software and was exacerbated in dimmers with a high DMX address setting. It was a particularly difficult bug to find. The effect was to read a DMX packet incorrectly on a random basis.
If the dimmer was driving high wattage lamps then the brief change in intensity often would not be seen. If the dimmer however was driving relatively low wattage (responsive) lamps then the effect became noticeable particularly in static lighting situations.
This latest release has cured the problem totally and it is highly recommended that all users of LSC "e" and "i" Series dimmers update to this latest version.
LSC has taken the opportunity of this software release to incorporate new features for the new e1220 dimmers and as a result, the cooling profile for the other dimmers has also been improved.
Updating software to LSC dimmers is easy. Software is available as a download file from the LSC website at www.lsclighting.com.au/software/eDIMsoftware. A special program called eLINK is required to transfer the software from a personal computer into the dimmer via a RS232 link on pins 4 and 5 of the DMX input connector. The eLINK software, installation information and details of how to make the eLINK cable are also available as downloads on the website. If any problems are encountered during software upgrading, contact LSC direct or your nearest LSC distributor.

I-Vision launches the I-Vex Flagstaff
The totally unique product is an illuminated flagpole, and embraces a broad spectrum of applications including the architectural, retail corporate branding, stadiums and events markets.
The I-Vex is currently available in three different versions - (1) as a wall-mounted pole (2) as a standard upright flagpole (3) as a mobile upright flagpole.
Variations in height can be achieved, but currently, the three standard lengths for the wall versions are 1.3, 2.3 and 3 metres. The uprights are available in three standard sizes - 4, 6 and 9 metres - and the mobiles come in 4 and 6 metre heights.
The wall mounting poles are available in fixed, user-definable colours, which can be matched to any standard Lee or Rosco gel colour, so offering a massive choice. The uprights are also available as fixed colours.
All three versions are available with CYM colour changing mechanisms, complete with onboard programmer. The latter offers a selection of factory settings or can be programmed up by the user and chased or crossfaded between colours, just like a normal colour-changing luminaire. The colour changing versions also have an additional serial port for linking to external controllers like lighting consoles.
The product blends a number of different technologies. It's constructed from weatherised materials, and built with a high wind resistance and practicality always to the fore. Erection has been designed to be quick, simple and fuss-free.
The I-Vex Flagstaff has been developed as an extension to i-vision's architectural work. Geoff Jones explains that it became apparent, when devising building lighting schemes, that it was equally as important to highlight structures with small localised lightsources in addition to washing large surface areas. It seemed logical to turn the common flagpole into a feature.
All I-Vex flagstaffs have conventional flag fixings so they can carry out their traditional role of flag flying. The wall-mounting poles tend to be used at the front of buildings, where space is an issue, and the uprights are often used in entrances.
The mobile versions are ideal for corporate and sponsorship branding. Offering the best of all worlds, by day they can be used for flying the flag and at night the flag is also illuminated from the radiance of the pole, as well as the poles looking extremely attractive in their own right - like an illuminated forest effect.

Coemar's new Electronic Ballast versions of their iSpot 575w range
Coemar selected PLASA 2002 for the unveiling of the electronic ballast versions of two of their most popular fixtures.
The implementation of electronic ballast technology has enabled the iSpot 575EB and iWash 575EB to embrace significant competitive advantages, including: greater lamp control; brighter light output; Zap-effect electronic strobing of the lamp; reduction of size and weight by up to 40%, and power consumption by up to 50%.
According to Fausto Orsatti, Coemar's technical director, the combination of electronic ballast and a superior optical path have resulted in the brightest and most lightweight fixtures in their class.
"The ballast incorporates PFC (power factor correction) which, along with the reduction to half power, makes this very efficient indeed - in fact it's the complete 575.
The EB versions are comparable to fixtures drawing twice the current, producing light output comparable to 1200watt units."
In terms of the chassis, both products use ergonomic handles in a cosmetically-appealing, die cast, moulded plastic design. Both fixtures are DR1 (Display Replicator) ready, meaning that they are compatible with Coemar's new DMX diagnostic instrument.
"These fixtures have been introduced in direct response from the touring market for lighter, brighter products, and the reduced size will also benefit trucking and handling requirements, said Peter Kemp, Managing Director of Coemar De Sisti Australia."
The iSpot 575 provides an enormous range of capabilities including twin vari-speed gobo wheels (each holding six gobos) and twin colour wheels (each with six colours plus white, super imposable). It offers 538° of pan, 252° of tilt, as well as electronically-controlled dimming, vari-speed prism rotation; motorised iris and focusing lens.
The iWash provides 538° of pan, 260° of tilt; CMY colour mixing system (six colours plus white on colour wheel); rainbow, multi-colour and 'slide' effect (in which the colours can be synchronised with black-out shutter beam shaping device) - and numerous other features.

Vari-Lite Adds to Series 1000TM Product Line
Changes to VL1000TM tungsten units provide greater options for lighting professionals
Riding the successful launch of its new flagship line of 1200-watt automated luminaires, Vari-Lite Inc. unveiled the new additions to its award-winning Series 1000TM inventory at LDI in Las Vegas. The inclusion of an onboard dimmer option in the VL1000 TM tungsten units will provide lighting professionals greater flexibility, added convenience and more options to satisfy their specific lighting needs.
"The expansion of our Series 1000 product range immediately after the introduction of our new Series 3000 products, shows that Vari-Lite is committed to the development of new automated lighting products and enhancements to our existing product line," said Vari-Lite President and COO Clay Powers. "Whatever designers need, we've got an automated light for the job."
The VL1000 ERS with onboard dimming eliminates the need for an external dimmer. Dimming functions can be controlled through a DMX console, allowing all of the functions of the lights to be controlled through a single source. The electronic dimmer, which is housed in the yoke arm of the fixture, makes the fixture cost efficient by eliminating many of the expenses for extra equipment, cabling and labour.
"There is a wide range of customers who want to use automated lights, but they are hesitant for one reason or another," said Bob Schacherl, Vari-Lite Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "By continually expanding our product range, we are reaching out to those users, while filling the needs of those who have used automated lights for years. These new products compliment our existing product line and give designers a wider palette from which to choose."
Vari-Lite also announced that all of the Series 1000, Series 2000TM and Series 3000TM products now come standard with a two-year warranty.

new wave truss
Total Structures have won their second LDI “Product of the Year” award in two years with new wave truss taking the honors in the Debuting Rigging and Hardware category.
That it is a truss is where the conventional thinking ends with new wave. It is the result of three years of ideas and concepts coming together to create a single, very special, product. The four most important of these ideas are construction, materials, connection and finishing.
new wave is constructed using a series of perforated plates that are bonded to the main chords that pass through them. This in turn allows a variety of materials to be used - all aluminum, Plexiglas and most popular of all a carbon fiber / aluminum hybrid. Added to this was a variation of last years Award winner, the OMNI connector. The rotating fork connection allows the truss to be assembled in an almost limitless variety of two and three-dimensional structural forms without custom fabrication.
The diversity of finishes, looks and branding opportunities is staggering. For example, the carbon fiber chords can be printed with custom textures, logos or messages or finished with a variety of Kevlar fabrics – on display were trusses that looked like they were made of wood, and a red and yellow woven fabric amongst a dazzling display of others.
The structural web can also be formed to carry a company logo or other pattern, fabulously displayed with the “Vegas” truss that had chords printed with playing cards and a structural web in the form of clubs, diamonds, hearts and spades. In addition, the web can be anodized prior to assembly, and therefore several colors can be accommodated within the same truss.
The “Standard” new wave product is comprised of black carbon fiber fabric finish chords, with bright aluminum web and is available in a 1ft increments up to 8ft (10ft will be available shortly).
It is an interesting comparison within the range that the carbon fiber hybrid is almost four times as strong as its aluminum counterpart over 20ft with a rated uniformly distributed load capability of nearly 900lbs.

e:cue System
e:cue products base on a central programming software, that is able to program up to 4096 DMX channels, has a library with editor, effects engine, cues, cuelists, matrix text editor, test routines for moving lights, and so on. The DMX output devices are connected to PC via USB, serial or ethernet. Some of them have memory to leave show for stand alone mode. They can be externally triggered or by integrated keyboard. Furthermore the media engine comes along with real clock timer, sunrise timer, triggering on midi/smpte/digital I/O and much more. Audio and video are build in.
The e:cue system is based on a uniform windows programmer-software (programmer), which includes the design of complex light scenarios based on DMX network as well as powerful performance programming.
To transfer the programmed scenarios in real DMX data, there are special output devices available. In general the user distinguishes between a live-show and the stand-alone mode. During a live show the data of the programmer is directly transmitted to the connected devices. By using the stand-alone mode, all devices work self-sufficiently after programming. Several interfaces such as USB, serial, ethernet guarantee a secure connection to PC.
The show controller is the central element of control for the entire show performance. Flexible interaction and various interfaces guarantee a independently defined usage and a syncronization with foreign equipment.
Live
During a live show all data of the programmer are directly transfered into real DMX data. The portable twilight including USB interface reproduces one of eight available DMX universes. If, in addition to that, the faderunit is connected as well, the user works with a portable light desk. It is also possible to connect several twilights simultaneously to the computer.
Automatic show
Smaller automatic programs can be realised by the help of the nano. The show of the programmer can be saved in the memory of the nano and be reproduced when provided with current. Limited user intervention (external keys or MIDI) on the saved scenarios is available by the interface control one. An external timer makes the start of the show independent from day and time.
Show control
The media engine is the central control element due to its replay unit and performance control. It warrants a perfect performance of the show and provides a flexible interaction in the current programming by various interfaces and user terminals. The integrated MP3 player and the output of image-data (VGA out) makes a multi media design possible. All programming and input of media data are made by the programmer. An easy intervention into the show can be done by a wireless connection.
The syncronization with additional applicators via MIDI, SMPTE, Ethernet, Seriell ect. offers a broad spectrum of applications.
Programmer
Software for scene- and performance programming by windows
The e:cue programmer is a powerful windows-based program to create complex light scenarios. Furthermore the software functions as a user interface for the interactive performance control of the media engine. The familiar concept of cues and cuelisten makes the access to the designing of multi media event worlds easier. The program package communicates as a central element with all products made by e:cue.
Shows created by the programmer can be replayed live or be transmitted to external devices for later reproduction.
Faderunit
Stable keyboard and faderunit for connection to the programmer or the media engine.
The faderunit provides the popular, conventional user elements of a light desk. By connecting to a laptop, working with the programmer-software becomes a lot easier today. In a specially designed metalcase there are 13 faders and 73 keys, providing a direct access to central functions of the programme. Five oil-seated jogdials warrant a high quality tuning of parameters of single lighting parameters. In connection with a DMX output device (nano or twilight), the laptop becomes a high level console. The faderunit can be connected to the media engine as well. By doing so, the user has an option for a limited intervention in the programmed show.
NANO
DMX Ausgabegerät output device for the programmer with stand-alone function.
The easiest and cheapest possibility to transfer the output of the programmer into DMX data/ is the nano. The nano is a small und very robust box which can create up to 256-DMX-channels directly from the laptop. One can even connect several nanos simultaneously to the computer via RS232. But the original idea of the nano is based on his stand-alone-mode. The programmed show can be saved in the memory of the nano and be replayed by the device itself. This way, up to 32 DMX channels can be used which makes the nano an ideal instrument for simple automatic tasks. The water proof case with optional wall holders is made for outdoor usage as well. The control box one allows a syncronization of programmed cues with external keys and Midi-Signals for flexible interaction.
Twilight
DMX output device (DMX512) for the programmer with USB interface.
If you want the complete DMX spectrum including 512 channels, the e:cue twilight is made for you. Connected to the computer via USB interface, no extern netadapter is necessary and one out of eight DMX universes, available in the programmer, is reproduced. Of course you can also work with several twilights simultaneously connected to your computer (maximum of eight pieces / 4096 channels). The stable water proof case with optional wall holders is made for outdoor usage as well.
Media Engine
Performance control and replay unit with integrated MP3 player.
The media engine, highlight of the e:cue product family, is a complete media- and performance control. Not only that this applicator can reproduce the shows made by the help of the programmer. Further equipment can be syncronized as well. Interfaces for DVD players, HD recorders and other medias provide a wide range of user facilities. The integrated MP3 player as well as the the beamer support (VGA out) are additional facilities of the system that could be used escpecially in museums or amusement parcs.
The connection between programmer and media engine by ethernet (tcp/ip) is extremly future oriented. The optional wireless LAN offers an easy control of all actions.
E:node
Ethernet to DMX512 Gateway and DMX512 Replay Unit
The new devices e:node512 and e:node1024 offer state of the art DMX512 technologie for a very interesting price.
Both devices can work as DMX512 gateway for use with the freely available e:cue Programmer software or with the e:cue media engine. Furthermore both devices work also in stand alone mode. In this mode a preprogrammed show can be
easily uploaded into the devices and than be replayed without PC or Laptop.
e:cue are currently looking for distributors.

Entertainment Technology Intelligent Raceway
The IPS-IRW Series Intelligent Raceway replaces a conventional dimmer rack and connector strip with one lightweight raceway that provides both. Each Raceway can be up to 100 feet in length and contain up to 48 dual dimmer modules, for a total of 96 dimmers. Intelligent Raceway dual dimmers feature a new, dynamic method of sharing a single power feed. Either dimmer may be loaded up to 20A when used alone, or when the two dimmers are operated at the same time, any combination of loads may be connected, as long as the combined total of both dimmers does not exceed 20A.
The IPS-IRW is fed from a standard 3 phase breaker panel (by others). This significantly reduces the number of wires (5 vs. 12 for 6 outlets) and reduces the installed cost when compared to conventional dimmed connector strips. Each dimmer incorporates a local focus button for quick set-up and testing. IPS dimmers utilize state-of-the-art insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) technology, which provide significant performance enhancements over conventional dimming equipment.
IPS dimmers are completely solid-state which enable them to operate silently without mechanical noise and operate at 800uS in forward or reverse phase waveform, which dramatically minimizes lamp, ballast, or transformer noises in the space.
Since IGBT technology does not use filters or chokes, IPS dimmers are more efficient, with a maximum 2.5 voltage drop at full, are lightweight at less than 2 lbs per dimmer, and produce less heat than conventional dimmers.
IPS dimmers offer an extended feature set that is unsurpassed in today’s conventional dimming equipment. Every IPS dimmer has an on-board, intelligent microprocessor, which adjusts and maintains proper voltage and current in response to changes detected in the load and electrical service. The microprocessor
automatically suppresses surges, protects against dead shorts, and extends lamp life.
Configuration features include TALKBACKTM, which provides dynamic feedback of load size/type, short circuit, temperature and overload.
IPS dimmers also significantly reduce neutral harmonics and may be configured to operate in LOW HARMTM mode, making them the lowest harmonic dimmer available. Other configuration features include IPS REMOTE COMMANDSTM which provide user control of forward or reverse phase dimming during operation, and selectable voltage output control from 115-120V. With standard features that surpass every other dimmer, the Intelligent Power System® is the
most advanced dimming system available.

James Thomas Engineering launches two environmentally friendly white LED products at LDI
LDI 2002 in Las Vegas is the location chosen by UK-based James Thomas Engineering to launch the first two high brightness white LED products in their revolutionary Pixelrange - solid state lighting using high-brightness light emitting diodes.
The Pixelpar 660tw (tungsten white) and the Pixelpar 87tw feature the same energy-efficient characteristics as the complementary colour mixing Pixelrange that was launched at PLASA in September.
These fixtures are ideal for a myriad of applications including architectural, retail and feature lighting, and also for home use where not colour mixing is required
The Pixelpar 660tw's main technical features include maximum power consumption of just 80 watts, and an incredible Lux intensity of 9000 at one metre. The beam angle is 10 degrees, and the fixture's LED matrix consists of 440 daylight white LEDs and 215 yellow LEDs. The patent-pending heat exchanger is switchable between tungsten and daylight colour temperature and the led matrix is mounted on our patent pending heat exchanger which is easily removed to enable easy upgrade when higher brightness leds become available.
There's no radiated heat within the beam, and the predicted lifetime is 100,000 hours.
The Pixelpar 87tw's maximum power consumption is just 8 watts, giving a Lux Intensity of 1232 Lux at 1 metre, and a beam angle of 10 degrees. The LED matrix consists of 60 daylight white LEDs and 27 yellow LEDs, and again the patent-pending heat exchanger is switchable between tungsten and daylight colour temperature. The LED matrix is mounted on the heat exchanger, which is easily removed for simple upgrade when higher brightness LEDs become available. There's no radiated heat at all within luminaire's beam of light, and the predicted lifetime is a massive 100,000 hours
James Thomas Engineering's Pixelrange series of LED lighting fixtures now qualifies as an energy-efficient approved product under the UK government's Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA) Scheme. This allows UK companies investing in Pixelrange LED lighting products to qualify for 100% tax relief on their capital expenditure.

Avolites launches the Diamond 4 Elite at LDI 2002
The console is streamlined to offer the maximum power and functionality in the minimum physical space, recognising the ever-growing need in all applications to use FOH and control spaces expediently.
The D4 Elite offers all the features of the full sized Diamond 4, in a smaller chassis with 14 submasters and 96 assigned playbacks, with direct access to 96 fixtures via Legend Cells (re-assignable preset playbacks).
Both D4 products have been developed in parallel. Avolites wanted to offer a physically smaller console in the range that still had the flexibility and versatility for which it's products are renowned.
The D4 and the D4 Elite are fully disk compatible, and the Elite features all the software functions of the larger desk, addressing the whole spectrum of production situations.
For those with a relaxed programming schedule, the D4 Elite's direct access control surface offers intuitive and fluid programming, that will realise the full potential of the lighting design. Conversely, for those time-pressed moments when an LD has just minutes to programme a spectacular show - the D4 Elite offers immediate access to a powerful 'instant' toolkit.
New Features include :
14 Fixed Playbacks
96 Assigned Playbacks
1000 plus Fixtures & Channels
96 Direct Access Programming Palettes
Multiple times & overlap on Attributes & Fixtures
Logical, informative Cue Viewing Environment
Additional 'live' operation facilities
Enhanced Theatre Plotting features
Electronic legending for Palettes, Groups & Fixtures
Dual Theatre & Multiple cue-list playbacks
Fully automatic configuring of Palettes & Groups
Enhanced Ethernet capabilities
The electronic legending increases speed of set-up and allows the automatic configuration of a huge programming Palette.
The D4 Elite significantly expands the number of Palettes, injecting yet more potency into this important feature. Greater processing power ensures faster access and response time for all functions. Instant Access features like the live recall of 'Palettes' during the show is a hallmark of Avo operators. This single feature has contributed to Avolites consoles dominating festival multi-user control set ups everywhere.
Increased software capabilities and dual VGA monitors make the console even more versatile, logical and fast to programme. Naturally, the D4 Elite also retains the hands-on intuitive feel that's made Avolites' desks the most popular 'live' operation consoles worldwide.
