Cyclo
04 DMX WallwasherThe Cyclo 04 DMX Wallwasher is a recessed fluorescent wallwasher with RGB color mixing which generates both white and colored light. Suited to a wide range of retail applications, it also provides an interesting solution for the office environment. DMX controllable, the Cyclo 04 DMX Wallwasher feature extended color control and excellent white and colored light quality and represents a breakthrough for its ability to successfully compress color-changing technology into an architectural fitting, say the company. A full range of white and colored light is achieved by combining four dimmable T5 fluorescent lamps, the primary colors red, green and blue in a process known as additive color mixing, and an additional neutral white tube of 4000K. When installed at a setback of 1/3 the height of the wall, colored light is distributed extremely evenly and smoothly. Colour distribution is achieved by a combination of optical technology and reflectors with Lambertian characteristics. Because light strikes at the very top of the wall, wall coverage is total, eliminating the upper dark zone commonly associated with wallwashers. Moreover, the design of the metallic reflector ensures that colored light is first seen when it strikes the projection surface. The Cyclo O4 DMX Wallwasher can either be controlled by an external DMX controller, or with its own built-in programming capability that allows for pre-set color sequences. DMX addresses and pre-set programs are selected via an on-board DIP switch. It is possible to link multiple Cyclos together in synchronized master/slave operation. Applications include white and color washing of walls and ceilings for retail, restaurants, hotels and other commercial applications, as well as programmable color changes and fluctuating daylight effects for conference rooms, recreation spaces, and multi-functional areas. www.martin-architectural.com Australian distributor: Show Technology www.showtech.com.au |

Maxedia Digital Media Composer Advanced
features bring digital lighting creativity to a whole new levelMartin Professional invites you to experience a new level of digital lighting creativity with the new Maxedia Digital Media Composer. Maxedia is Martin's new media server capable of handling a multitude of digital media; images, video, 3D graphics, and more. Output as a video signal to video/plasma screens or any type of video image projector, Maxedia boasts a number of advantages over other digital media servers. Housing an extensive media library for convenient access to creative special effects, Maxedia incorporates 3D effects and mapping (bitmap or video), real-time layer manipulation, and various playback and real-time transition effects. Maxedia, which includes integrated DMX control, provides full control of both lighting and video elements. The Maxedia advantage 1. Maxedia runs up to a maximum of 20 layers simultaneously, depending on the type of layer. 2. Maxedia offers 3D effects with unique real-time manipulation features. 3. Programming is done on the Maxedia system itself, making it much easier to program than by using DMX alone. Playback is then completed via DMX for maximum ease of use. 4. If desired, programming and playback can be done without the use of a DMX lighting console. This is ideal for situations such as exhibition stands or smaller corporate events where Maxedia can run completely independently without the need for other control equipment on site. 5. Maxedia uses no more than 25 DMX channels; competitor systems can use more than 120 channels. And if these don't convince users, a price comparison should. Real time manipulation Typically, video/image content is first prepared off-site, then loaded into a media server for manipulation and final playback. Maxedia, however, makes it simple to adjust looks on the fly, without the need for off site re-editing. Real-time changes appear instantly with no delays. In fact, Maxedia is the media server system with the most real time manipulation features on the market. Effects such as ocean scenes for example can be manipulated various ways - intensity of wave, waveform change from peak to smooth, etc. - all edited on the Maxedia in real time, producing effects ranging from a quiet smooth stretch of water to a thundery storm. Effects are then saved as a preset cue, ready for immediate playback. Full lighting and video control A media server with DMX control such as Maxedia gives the lighting designer full control of both the lighting and video elements of a show. Because digital imagery is a visual element to be coupled with lighting, with Maxedia video and lighting content work together rather than against each other. The ability to control video via the lighting desk is essential for control and timing considerations. Maxedia therefore eliminates the need for a dedicated video designer and operator. Additional Maxedia news including specifications, a Media Exchange Library, and more can be viewed on Maxedia's own website at www.maxedia.com www.martin.com Australian distributor: Show Technology www.showtech.com.au |

DMX
USB interface from EnttecEnttec has released a community-based DMX USB interface - a USB to DMX widget that can be used by any PC to generate DMX using the USB port. The project is composed of hardware and a software driver. Enttec has released full schematics of the hardware and full source code of the example application on the website under a GPL license. The requirement for users is that they must give back to the community any improvement or change made to the project. At Enttec we believe that it's important to lower the entry barrier for students and enthusiasts wanting to get involved with Lighting control and DMX512. This project allows anyone to download the information from the website and build their own interface. From there they can write software based on our example. Enttec also offers very low cost prebuilt hardware. The project was released two weeks ago, and in that short time frame, we have received an outstanding support from enthusiasts, technicians and Lighting professionals. Pre orders of the pre built hardware have surpassed all expectations. Most users plan to write their own programs to 'test lights' or 'debug systems' using their laptops. There has also been significant interest from existing software developers to add support for the open DMX USB into their products. One company has committed their support and will be releasing a compatible version shortly. A mailing list has been setup to concentrate community interest in this new project, at www.enttec.com/dmxusb.php www.enttec.com |

Eye Technology Debuts for DL1 High End Systems DL1 digital light fixture now features an optional Sony camera accessory that forms the basis of its patented Digital Eye technology. The Digital Eye offers practical as well as special effect functions for event professionals. InfoComm attendees may see its exciting potential in High End Systems multi-media presentation June 9-11 at booth #5055 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta. The DL1 is the bridge between video and automated lighting. It has all the appearance of an automated light on a moving yoke. It even functions like a moving light. But it is much more. It allows digital media images to be projected virtually anywhere in 3-D space. Digital Eye Technology now further enhances the DL1s capabilities. The DL1 outfitted with the Digital Eye technology features an infrared illuminator on one side of the DL1's lens, while the Digital Eye is positioned on the other side -- both inside the fixture's shell. When the infrared illuminator is activated, the Digital Eye reads the infrared waves and responds to it, operating in the dark and without emitting any visible light itself. The Digital Eye is outfitted with a serial interface that connects internally to DL1, allowing it to be controlled through DMX. It uses 9 channels of DMX to access or adjust settings, such as zoom, blackout, shutters, focus, selectable white balance and other functions. In practical terms, the Digital Eye is able to "see" through a dark environment. This offers a myriad of possible uses, such as allowing lighting directors, stage managers and other event professionals to view set changes or check the band's position in the dark; it can also be used to capture an image of the band or set and project the infrared night vision image as an effect. It also functions as a standard video camera in professionally lit environments for many other potential uses. For special effect functions, the Digital Eye can capture live action and project it through another DL1 projection/video wall as it happens. Or, the action can be captured and sent to the Catalyst Media Server, where it can be manipulated, colorized, layered and mixed with other Catalyst effects to be projected at that time back through another DL1 or projection/video wall. Live images may also be saved in the Catalyst Media Server as a digital file for future use. Having a Digital Eye inside DL1's moving yoke allows the user to capture action from different and unusual angles where conventional cameras plus the cameraman cannot operate, or where a camera setup would normally be obtrusive to the view. The technology is protected from theatrical effects such as fog, dust and pyro by DL1s patent-pending filtration system. High End Systems offers a Digital Eye upgrade kit for existing DL1 users. It may also be ordered as an option in a new DL1 purchased by authorized HES dealers. www.highend.com Australian Distributor: ULA www.ula.com.au |

VLPS:
Virtuoso EX1 Media Server demoVLPS Lighting Services is debuting the new video demo of the Virtuoso EX1 Media Server on its website (address below). Officially launched on 1 April, the EX1 media server employs a moving perspective camera and five-point lighting in a virtual 3D environment. "The EX1 3D virtual environment contains two separate backgrounds, up to three interactive geometric objects, a positional camera and five light sources - which can be difficult to explain in words," comments Mike Snyder, EX1 product manager. "Plus, writing or talking about it just doesn't do enough justice to the EX1's capabilities. You really have to see it at work to appreciate its unique differences from the other media servers in the market." Bryan Faris, senior programmer and developer of the EX1 video, says: "We've been holding ongoing demonstrations for clients at our studios but we wanted to bring a virtual "studio" to clients and other interested parties who can't make it to one of our offices by producing this EX1 video demo." The full nine-minute version of the video demo introduces the viewer to the hardware specifications as well as the server's different features: background environment, lighting, 3D objects, camera perspectives, framing, keystoning, scaling, and a highlight of the VLPS media library. A two-minute video is also available for those who wish to see the highlights of the EX1 capabilities. Both versions can be streamed or downloaded at two different connection speeds.
