introduces Source Four HID PAR and PARNel ETC's Source Four PAR and PARNel luminaires have have enjoyed great success in the entertainment and architectural fields: now, say ETC, that level of performance has been combined with the same stellar lamp and ballast life of ETC's Source Four HID ellipsoidal range. The complete range of Source Four HIDs is now able to provide retail store, exhibition centres, museums and other architectural projects with the same precision and beam quality as seen on stages around the world. The long life of the Source Four HID PAR and PARNel lamps ensures they run for 12,000 hours - in comparison with the incandescent lamp of approximately 300 hours and the tungsten halogen lamp life of 2,000 hours. This means low maintenance - ideal for locations that can't be reached often or easily. Source Four HID gives the level of performance of a 2,000 hour 575W Source Four luminaire, but with 10,000 additional hours. The metal halide Source Four PAR and PARNel HID offer clean washes of light in four beam spreads and the HID PARNel boasts a 25°-45° degree beam angle. Using a 150W electronic ballast with a power factor of greater than 95% compared to some competitive units' ballasts at less than 70%, the Source Four HID PAR and PARNel ballast have an overall efficiency of greater than 90%. With their 1.5 amps operating current and harmonic distortion of less than 10%, it's possible to safely place more Source Four HIDs on a 20A circuit than other manufacturers' units which operate at 2.3 amps. The HID PAR and PARNel now complete ETC's family of Source Four HID luminaires for architectural applications. All fixtures are available in black, white and silver grey as standard, while any custom colour can be made to meet customer specification (with the exception of the Source Four Zooms, available in black only). There are now five fixtures in the family: Source Four HID Fixed Focus, Source Four HID junior, Source Four HID Zoom (two zoom ranges: 15°-30° and 25°-50°), Source Four HID PAR and Source Four HID PARNel. www.etcconnect.com Australian Distributor: Jands www.jands.com.au |

Mac guidance Strand Lighting has released a guide for Macintosh users on how to use its computers with, and alongside, Strand 500-series lighting consoles in a variety of ways via the power of Virtual PC, a software package which emulates a PC on a Macintosh. Using Virtual PC users can Run Strand's off-line editor software on any Macintosh, allowing designers to create and edit showfiles away from a console (the off-line editor supports all of the functionality of the 300 and 500 series consoles). Users can also connect a Macintosh to a ShowNet network as a remote console. This allows operators full access to the data in a system's main console, while remaining independent of the user of that console - designers can configure their own channel and cue display format, and look at or even edit cues, groups, subs and effects in preview. The Macintosh can also be used as a ShowNet network node, allowing multiple users to see the same screen display as the operator of the main console. Users can also connect to a ShowNet network wirelessly, if there is a wireless base station in the network and they have an Apple Airport card (or equivalent) fitted. Operators can also run WYSIWYG on a Macintosh: when the Mac is connected to a ShowNet network this will allow a designer to see what the lighting rig is doing graphically, including the ability to look at cues in preview in WYSIWYG. WYSIWYG can run alongside the remote and node software - in other words, users can have three windows on their computer screen, one showing the operator's view, one showing your own view, and one showing a WYSIWYG view. To run Strand's software the PC-DOS version of VirtualPC is required; for WYSIWYG, a copy of the Windows 98 or later version of VirtualPC is needed. An information sheet on how to use Macintosh computers with Strand systems can be found on the Strand website. www.strandlighting.com |

Flame
retardant gaffer tape from Le MarkLe Mark has developed a new fire retardant gaffer tape. Manufactured from high quality, waterproof, vinyl-coated cloth tape, with a natural rubber based adhesive, it has a special flame retardant coating. Offering high tensile strength, it conforms to Ford specifications - ESB-M3G71-B and S95GG14K024CA. On a separate note, Le Mark's custom printing division had an incredibly busy start to 2003. January saw the production, for the first time, of a uniquely complicated multi-text identification label system for the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. Le Mark adapted its heavy-duty PAL Label identification system to meet the Philharmonic's requirement that every single piece of flight-cased equipment be uniquely named and identified with a reusable label. This required a total of 73 individual stencils to be produced and then screen printed. www.lemark.co.uk |
Chroma-Q
Cascade: 300+ Colours The
latest addition to the Chroma-Q range of colour changers is the Cascade,
which utilizes two internal gel-strings and the latest technology to provide
over 300 useable colours from a single unit. Offering the same level of
reliability and affordable technology, the new compact and lightweight Cascade
offers many new features and enhancements creating the most versatile Chroma-Q
to date.A Universal Mounting System (UMS) eliminates the need for individual mounting plates, and by simple adjustment makes this unit instantly compatible with a range of lanterns with up to a 175mm lens, suitable for up to 50º beam angle (without light loss). The Cascade is supplied complete with gel-strings, and further benefits from an integrated heat shield, which increases gel-string longevity, particularly beneficial for higher wattage lanterns. The unit additionally features two operational modes, 'creative', and 'library', selectable via dip switches. The creative mode operates by using a CMY colour mixing method. This method relies on having a full spectrum source (white light) and mixing two variable density subtractive filters at different saturations to achieve hundreds of colours from a single colour changer, making frustrating advanced colour selection a thing of the past. The library mode offers quick access to 100 pre-programmed colours presented on a single DMX channel. Operating from existing Chroma-Q PSO8 and PS18/2 power supply units, the new Cascade can work simultaneously with any other Chroma-Q unit on the same circuit. Glyn O'Donoghue, A.C. Lighting's product development director, commented: "The Cascade eliminates the need for costly custom gel-strings making it ideal for the short-term rental market. Designers really like the flexibility of fine tuning their colour selection throughout productions without any cost implication." Chroma-Q colour changers are exclusively distributed worldwide by A.C. Lighting. www.aclighting.com |

Offers Barndoor Option for MAC 2000 Wash Designed
especially for use in theatrical environments or situations where greater
control of the beam of an automated wash light is required, Martin has developed
a fully motorized and fully closing set of barndoors for the MAC 2000 Wash. The barndoors were conceived in the original design process of the fixture after consultation with lighting designers from around the world. The barndoors come fitted with a wide angle lens as standard, but can be fittedwith the Fresnel or PC lenses that are supplied with the MAC 2000 Wash fixture. Quarter-turn screws allow users to easily remove the standard front lens and replace it with the barndoor module, complete with lens. No cables are needed as the module plugs directly into a socket already equipped on every MAC 2000 Wash fixture. An individual DMX channel controls each of the barndoors four blades. Additionally, each blade can fully close over the beam of the fixture. For further flexibility, an additional DMX channel gives rotational control over the entire module, allowing it to be rotated through 100 degrees. This gives the possibility to align both the small and large doors to any angle required. Now, with this practical and convenient accessory, designers can have full beam control over their high-powered wash fixtures at anytime. www.martin.dk Australian Distributor: Show Technology www.showtech.com.au |

Cyclo
Series From Martin Architectural Adds New Dimension in Interior LightingMartin Architectural continues to expand its line of interior colour changing products with the introduction of the Cyclo series, a range of tubular washlights featuring RGB colour mixing or colour correction control. As one of the pioneers in the production of colour-changing spotlights, Martins Cyclo offers an entirely new dimension to a lighting designer's repertoire. The Cyclo is a surface mounted fixture with a slim design. Designed for use in cove lighting, perimeter lighting, light walls, or behind semi-transparent materials and space where room is restricted, Cyclo comes in three varieties. Cyclo 02 Cyclo 02 is a fluorescent colour temperature changer that can recreate natural fluctuations in daylight. The smallest in the series, the luminaire consists of two dimmable T5 tubes, a warm white at 2700K and a daylight white at 6000K. By adjusting the relative intensity levels of the two tubes any colour temperature between the two extremes can be generated to create smooth transitions between warmer and cooler tones. Cyclo 02 can be controlled from any DMX controller via the Martin 516 Converter, a handy tool which converts DMX to 0-10 V analog output. The Cyclo 02 is controlled via a 0-10 V signal. The 516 Converter offers 16 analog outputs, meaning that 8 Cylco 02 luminaires can be controlled individually via DMX. Multiple Cyclos can be analog daisy chained for larger or more complex configurations. Cyclo 03 and Cyclo 04 The Cyclo 03 and 04 offer full colour mixing using RGB technology to generate white light of any temperature as well as virtually all colors and shades. Technically this is achieved by combining dimmable T5 fluorescent lamps in the primary colours red (R), green (G) and blue (B) in a process known as additive colour mixing. The Cyclo 04 features an additional white 4000K tube for extended colour control and an improved functional light quality. Colour mixing and dynamic changes can be controlled from any DMX controller via the 516 Converter. Like the Cyclo 02, the Cyclo 03 and 04 are controlled via a 0-10 V signal. The 516 Converters 16 analog outputs means that 4 Cylco 04 units can be controlled individually via DMX. Multiple Cyclo 03 and 04s can also be analog daisy chained. Already successfully integrated into several retail environments, the Cyclo series can be used in a number of settings including recreation spaces and work related environments such as conference rooms. www.martin.dk Australian Distributor: Show Technology www.showtech.com.au |

LightShop Light Shop is Roscos new Windows based software tool for lighting designers. It calculates and displays photometric information for most lighting instruments used in theater and television. The heart of the program is an online library of manufacturers photometric data for hundreds of different lighting instruments. Many of the instruments include pictures when available. A specific instrument may be selected and its photometrics analyzed based on trim height and floor distance from the subject. All pertinent calculations such as beam diameter, throw distance, angle of incidence, and footcandles or lux at the subject, are performed. Alternatively, a lighting area may be defined by diameter, trim height and floor distance. Light Shop will then suggest which instruments in its currently selected library could satisfy these requirements. Photometrics may be displayed in either cross section, plan, or a template style view. Templates may be printed for either cross section or plan use to assist in the creation of manual lighting plots. Plan templates take trim heights into consideration for accurate representation of the beam pattern on the stage floor. The online library also contains a selection of bulbs. Alternate bulbs may be selected for inclusion in photometric calculations. The Gel Library contains Roscos catalogue of colors as well as other manufacturers gels providing transmission data required for photometric calculations. Other features include: Distances can be calculated in both metric and Imperial measurements. Photometric data can be analyzed at both minimum and maximum focus. Printouts of plan and cross section of beam in 1/8", 1/4" and 1/2" scale. Lamps can be chosen by ANSI code or LIF. Future upgrades available to increase library size. Full technical support from manufacturer. A sampling of lighting manufacturers included: Altman, Colortran, DeSisti, Electro Controls, ETO, High End Systems, Kliegl Bros., Lighting and Electronics, Little Stage Lighting, Mole-Richardson, Strand Lighting, Times Square Lighting, Vari*Lite. www.rosco.com |
