Belden Introduces Rugged Cat 5e Cables
Belden CDT Electronics Division, a developer of specialty cable products for A/V, broadcast and entertainment applications, introduces Brilliance ® CatSnakeTM tactical field-deployable Category 5e audio/video cables designed for use in patching Ethernet or other Cat 5e digital audio/video formats. The new Cat 5e UTP cables are AES/EBU-compliant and feature an extremely rugged construction, utilizing Belden's patented Bonded-Pair design, which makes them ideal for indoor broadcast applications in high traffic areas, as well as tactical, field-deployable for use out-of-doors and in broadcast truck applications.

Brilliance CatSnake UTP cables - Product Nos. 1304A and 1305A - feature Bonded-Pair unshielded twisted pairs (UTPs) with 24 AWG stranded bare copper conductors and polyolefin insulation. To further ensure the durability, portability and re-useability of CatSnake UTP cables, Belden has a heavy jacket wall version for medium duty use (Product No. 1304A) or an upjacketed version for the harshest heavy duty applications (Product No. 1305A). And, to increase their flexibility, the cables offer stranded (7x32) conductors and matte-finished Belflex ® jackets. Both cables pass the -40°C Cold Bend test per UL 1381.

The consistency of any UTP cable can determine its transmission distance. Physical characteristics such as the cable's conductor-to-conductor relationship along the full length of the cable can affect how far a signal can be carried at a given frequency without excessive attenuation due to return loss. CatSnake UTP Cat 5e Audio cables maintain their impedance and superior Return Loss performance when flexed and handled in rugged environments because Belden's patented Bonded-Pair design bonds the insulated conductors together, thus maintaining consistent conductor-to-conductor spacing along the entire longitudinal axis, with no gaps to create impedance changes. Belden calls this reliable after-installation performance Installable and Portable Performance.
(Editor's Note: Cat5e cables are also suitable for
transmission of DMX512)

Stardraw.com introduces Stardraw Control RC2
StardrawSoftware providers Stardraw.com unveiled Stardraw Control RC2 (Release Candidate 2) for the first time at the recent PLASA 2005. Billed as a software-based, unified framework that can control any remotely-controllable product from any manufacturer over any protocol, Stardraw Control RC2 is the final pre-release version of the application which is scheduled for final availability later this quarter.
Stardraw Control generates standalone, customized control programs. Like other Stardraw applications it is fast, powerful, flexible and easy to use; with a drag-drop interface and intuitive design environment, installers are able to configure systems and control them without having to write a single line of code. Utilization of Microsoft.net technology means that control programs are portable and can run on any Windows-enabled device, from PC to PDA.
Stardraw Control's open architecture means that manufacturers can offer software control without the overhead of developing exclusive (and limited) software applications for individual products, and since Stardraw Control communicates with any existing device-specific Application Programming Interface (API), manufacturers can add support of their products without changing existing code. For systems integrators this open, unified approach means that a single application can control many diverse products with as much or as little complexity as the end user needs.
Stardraw Control RC2 offers numerous fixes and improvements over the previous version which had already been honoured with two Innovation in Technology awards from PLASA and NSCA. A new Topology View, which shows logical system interconnection, is faster and easier to use with intelligent auto-routing, rubber-banding and bridging. New product and actions wizards make it simple to create new controllable products and define the effect of any control in the final user interface, still without the need for the programmer to write any code.
According to Stardraw.com CEO David Snipp: "With Stardraw Control we have developed an open system that is universally applicable. Manufacturers like it because it conforms to any standard or protocol they choose, and installers are excited because it breaks the constraints on product selection and application programming that you get with closed-architecture systems. This is a winner at every level."

Studio Due's success at PLASA
Studio Due introduced a new model of the CityColor luminaire, manufactured under its joint venture in China. The colour changer, available in 1800W and 2500W versions, was introduced at the recent PLASA Show in a completeld version and will be on the market at the end of October. The re-designed luminaire features a new asymmetric bracket which gives the spotlight head more inclination - and is 30% cheaper, say the company.
In the Chinese factory - Studio Due's new manufacturing plant and not an OEM company - the Shark 250 as also been improved. The standard colours, gobos and effects have been provided with an electronic ballast, varying from 90 to 260 volts. The new front panel placed at the base of the projector, more elegant and functional then the previous version, is also new. The price of the Shark 250 has fallen by 40% and will also be on the market at the end of October, say Studio Due.
However, the focus at PLASA was the presentation of the CityLed, a small 42-LED projector (12 blue, 12 green and 18 red), controlled by a DMX signal for the emission of white or coloured light thanks to the RGB mix. With a weather protection range of IP67 or IP68, it is able to work in almost any atmospheric condition. The system is controlled via software - together with a DMX converter - able to read files in flash format and project them on to a structure. The visual effect was impressie at PLASA, and despite being positioned in an area of high ambient lighting, the CityLed fixtures lost none of their brightness, say Studio Due, and captured the attention of the visitors.

New lens tube options for Source Four
Ever since the Source Four profile spotlight was invented from a blank canvas in 1992, ETC has worked to ensure it remains the cutting edge tool for lighting professionals. The brightest luminaire in its class, the Source Four is the benchmark against which others are measured. Continuous development has seen progressive increases in light output (62% more punch since the luminaire's introduction), enhancements to the lens and reflector and innovative modifications to the lamp itself.
Now the Source Four is set to become even better, with the launch at PLASA 2005 of a potent new accessory, the EDLT - the Enhanced Definition Lens Tube. Designed as an option for the Source Four fixed focus profile, the EDLT provides even crisper projections with greater acuity and higher contrast. The EDLT makes graphics look even better and the beam edge even sharper, with no loss in field lumens. Whenever a crisp edge is needed for a window gobo in a theatrical scene, or whenever a projected corporate logo needs to be spot on, the EDLT is the choice say ETC.
Set for delivery in December, the Enhanced Definition Lens Tube will be available in 19°, 26°, and 36° beam angles. The 50° beam angle will follow in the first quarter of 2006. Tom Littrell, ETC's luminaire product manager, said: "Because our product development is an ongoing process of subtle refinements, people often don't always notice the differences. All they see is that the Source Four remains the best luminaire in the industry. These new offerings are testament to ETC's commitment to innovation, maintaining the Source Four as the world's number one choice among lighting designers."
Now an entire family of award-winning luminaires, the Source Four line includes the Source Four PAR, PARNel, Zoom, junior and junior zoom and the MultiPAR batten, as well as HID (high intensity discharge) versions for architectural use. The most recent addition to the family, the Source Four Revolution, a moving light with the same bright optics as its forebears and exceptionally quiet automation say the company, which makes it ideal for noise-sensitive theatre, concert or opera applications.

Rosco in triple product launches
Rosco, which acquired the assets of DHA in May, has used PLASA to announce three new products.
Keystroke is a combination of hardware interface and a software application that allows any DMX based lighting controller to trigger keyboard commands on a Windows XP based personal computer. Because most PC applications can accept keyboard commands or shortcuts, Keystroke allows remote control of these applications. The company says the most popular use of Keystroke is for triggering PowerPoint slides in time with lighting cues.
The Rosco X-Effects 3D projector, launched at PLASA 2004, has been enhanced with a dowser and DMX module, adding to the product's flexibility. The fixture offers a dimensional effect previously unavailable to lighting designers. It features a 200W enhanced metal arc source, which produces 5K lumens with a colour temperature similar to that of Xenon at 6000K. The effect is created by rotating two "X" size glass gobos off-centre of the optical path.
Finally, the company also announced the introduction of new colours into the supergel range of lighting filters, including 15 new colours and one new diffusion.

ETC unveils IES Matrix Mk II dimming
The PLASA Show has seen the launch by ETC of the latest generation of its IES Matrix sine wave dimming system, in which dimmers of different ratings and dimming techniques can be mixed in the same installation.
The company's its IES Matrix Mk II, with just 44mm additional headroom, is one of the most flexible systems available, with a wide choice of channel ratings and module options, plus higher density and improved efficiency.
The extra 44mm has enabled ETC to increase the density of the rack up to 180 dimmer channels and provide the highest sine wave dimming density around. With space for up to six dimming channels per module, Matrix Mk II is customisable with up to 180 x 3kW or 90 x 5kW dimmers per rack. Sine wave modules are available as 4 x 3kW, 4 x 5kW and 1 x 10kW, with an even greater choice of channel ratings for SCR Basic and high filtering modules. With relay non-dim and HMI switch options also part of the "mix and match" selection of plug-in, hot-swap dimmer modules, Matrix Mk II is truly the most flexible system available, allowing the user to tailor their dimming precisely to their power control needs.
With Matrix Mk II, no matter what type of lamp is being used, or how many different types of lamp are being used in the same rig, all loads will dim with the same visual curve, thanks to dynamic load sensing which matches dimming curves for high and low wattage loads. ETC says this makes the system perfect for any theatre, concert, TV studio or opera house application, Matrix Mk II is also ideal for architectural installations which typically incorporate a range of different fixture types.
The increased flexibility also extends to the Matrix Mk II cabinets, now with the option of a swing-frame install rack, providing easy installation, access and maintenance, all from the front of the cabinet. With the addition of a web browser configuration tool for simple and fast configuration changes, Matrix Mk II also incorporates ETC's DimSTAT reporting software, with dynamic load sensing and curve-correction options and instant diagnosis of dimmer faults.

Immediate response to new Vari-Lite
PRG Europe has reported a strong response to Vari-Lite's new VL500 luminaire, with orders for the new fixture flooding in. Following what the company has called an "overwhelming demand for a return of the VL5 wash luminaire", Vari-Lite is debuting the VL500 at the PLASA Show. Based upon the 1994 Emmy Award-winning VL5 Wash luminaire, the VL500 offers users significant performance enhancements over its predecessor, say the company.
The VL500 is available with either a 120V/1200W lamp or a 230V/1000W lamp. The most economical and lightest version of the luminaire, the VL500 is designed for those who require the 3200-degree colour temperature along with the most space-efficient unit. No external ballast or dimmer is required.
The VL500D is also available with a 120V/1200W lamp or a 230V/1000W lamp, plus an internal yoke-mounted IGBT dimmer. While retaining the 3200-degree colour temperature, with a slight increase in weight, the VL500D offers built-in, onboard dimming without requiring any additional cabling. This luminaire is most advantageous for those whose spaces are short dimmers or dimmer circuits.
Capable of universal operation (90-260V), the VL500 80V utilizes an 80V/1200W lamp and an external dimming device. When intensity is the key, and the slight additional space required by the external dimmer is not a factor, this model offers more intensity while retaining the 3200-degree colour temperature tungsten source.
With an optional 575W (6000-degree colour temperature) or 700W (7200 degree colour temperature) arc lamp and external ballast, the VL500A provides blackout panels for dimming to replace the radially mounted diffuser panes of the other models. This luminaire is ideal when intensity and punch are important, or when the higher colour temperatures of an arc source are desired, say Vari-Lite.
PRG Europe is the exclusive distributor for Vari-Lite product in Europe, where it provides sales, service and support through its professional dealer network. PRG Europe's regional sales manager Phil Norfolk told LSI Online: "I have been astounded the level of new business at this year's PLASA. Spotlight on Dimmer Switch
The new wall-mounted, compact lighting controller from Artistic Licence simplifies customized performance and venue lighting. Artistic Licence's new 'Dimmer-Switch' joins 'Light-Switch' as part of a new range of Wall Mount DMX Controllers.
'Dimmer-Switch' provides the ideal solution for varied lighting requirement in pubs, clubs, conference rooms, retail outlets, trade shows, museum exhibits and domestic environments. Six independent LED illuminated faders are capable of playing back a static look or a dynamic sequence with the seventh 'Grand Master' fader providing overall intensity control.
The output is DMX512 with control over all 512 channels. Housed in a two-gang wall mount panel, Dimmer-Switch has all its electronic components mounted on the rear panel so there's no need for bulky or cumbersome external control boxes. The entire system can be programmed in two ways: by using the optional 'Dim-Edit' PC software or recording DMX512 from another console.
'Dim-Edit' is a powerful application providing a streamlined programming interface with 'Dimmer-Switch'. It includes a comprehensive library of personalities for automated fixtures and can be used to programme the show both in live and blind modes. Once programmed, the completed show is downloaded to 'Dimmer-Switch' via the serial port.
In multi-function venues, configuring 'Dimmer-Switch' to interface with an external DMX512 controller may be preferable. In a club with a live-band area, for example, Dimmer-Switch routes control of the 'stage lighting desk' to the dimmers when the stage is in use. After the show, Dimmer-Switch fades out the stage and fades in the mood lighting throughout the venue. Dimmer-Switch requires a 9VDC power supply, available separately.
Artistic Licence will be on stand G12 at PLASA 2005.

New from ETC for PLASA 2005
ETC officially launches its powerful Congo lighting-control console at PLASA 2005. Sneak-previewed at last year's PLASA and now shipping worldwide, Congo offers seamless integration of conventional and moving light control, say the company. The first system to combine ETC and Avab expertise and engineering, Congo earned its stripes at the Eurovision Song Contest 2005, where four final beta test boards controlled hundreds of automated and conventional luminaires, 16 media servers, 15,000 channels of lighting effects and 37 universes of DMX. Since then it has found favour throughout Europe, being ordered by and installed in theatres, TV studios and multi-purpose venues alike.
Also new is ETC's IES Matrix Mk II sine wave dimming system, bringing higher density, improved efficiency and an extended choice of channel ratings to the highly successful and reliable Matrix standard. This new design includes a frequency boost to improve efficiency to 98%, better than many traditional SCR dimmers. IES sine wave dimming, used wherever quiet operation and related energy efficiencies are a concern, is installed in TV studios and theatres alike.
Also on show will be new additions to the compact, budget-minded Smart Solutions family, to bring distributed dimming within everyone's reach. Both SmartBar and SmartModule plug straight into a domestic mains circuit, with SmartModule offering complete flexibility of dimming anywhere on the set, ever on the floor under the stage. Plus there are exciting developments for the Source Four, which is still setting the global standard for brightness and efficiency.

Martin Pro releases Maxxyz v1.5
The popular Maxxyz console has received a boost in speed and functionality with the release of version 1.5. The company says that months of user-input and an extensive beta testing program have ensured the console's steady development and success in the market as the desk of choice for many lighting designers and programmers.
Elements of the software have been completely revised resulting in significant improvement in performance while components of the user interface have received a face-lift for more consistent operation. With version 1.5 the console supports an enhanced internal database structure and improved internal networking, which has eliminated any lag in fixture selection and improved the general operation of the console. Boot up speed has been enhanced as well.
The Maxxyz's fixture patch has been redesigned using a theatrical command line structure with a powerful syntax and a new user interface for easier navigation of the 32 DMX universes the console supports. The patch also allows cloning of fixtures into cues, presets and groups to make adding more fixtures to a show an easy process. Fixtures can now have individual names for fast selection in the console's fixture selection grid.
A new FAN tool makes smart use of four digital encoder belts to stretch and skew fixtures along a curve for building aerial focuses and fanned colour saturations, even allowing offsetting of the center of the fan curve. Playback has added more options, rates can now be learned by using a tap sync function, any cuelist can be set to non-tracking, and cuelist can be protected from accidental release. The Maxxyz also boasts a hibernate feature that archives cuelists by removing them from the show but then leaves them available for later use. Maxxyz is claimed to be the first lighting console to offer this kind of 'recycle bin'.
The already powerful timing features of the console have received further additions with split timings for intensities, an enhanced timing resolution of 1/100th of a second (10X faster than before), new cue trigger syntax and the ability of presets to store and reference timing values into cues.

New from Avolites at PLASA
Avolites will show a number of new products at PLASA 2005. First among them, the ART-DC dimmer is a fully environmentally friendly, portable, stand-alone, wireless or DMX battery powered dimming system specifically developed for low voltage lamps. Originated for the fabulous The Storr - Unfolding Landscape arts project in Scotland, the ART-DC dimmer is now part of the diverse Avolites ART dimming range.
The ART-DC runs off industrial or car batteries and dims lights up to 20A. It's currently available in 4-channel/32A modules, and it can be either a dimming or a relay/switching module. It's ideal for dimming car headlights and other HMI/HID automotive lightsources, say Avolites. A 'Battery Save' function kicks in to conserve energy if there's no control signal, and there's local control and a useful and easily readable LCD front panel display for status and diagnostics - including battery voltage measurement. There's opto-isolated DMX in and out. The ART-DC is designed to be used outdoors. It's small and portable, measuring just 275 x 290 mm by 110mm high - just over A4 size - and weighs 3.2kg.
Also new from Avo is mDMX (for 'Mains DMX') - a unique and highly reliable wired and wireless method for sending DMX over mains cabling using Ethernet. This uses multiple multiplexing technology to module multiple DMX universes down a standard mains cable. The attraction of running just one cable is obvious and it's designed for situations where data cable management is a problem, e.g. moving trusses and scenery, FOH data runs. It currently has a maximum capacity of four DMX universes running concurrently over a distance of 400m. mDMX is fully compatible with the versatile and popular Avolites eDMX wireless system.
Avolites' implementation of the dAFTdATA WENDI wireless data protocol is a new sister product to eDMX, that works on the 5.8GHz range. Specifically designed for long-range work and point-to-point, clear line of sight solutions where the 2.4GHz spectrum is busy. Avolites' eDMX now offers this completely new frequency range, giving users increased flexibility over the design of their wireless systems.
Also new is the Diamond 4 'Active Personality' system - an innovation that creates a seamless link to Media Servers and Ethernet enabled fixtures. 'Active Personality' enables media clips to be viewed as graphic thumbnails from the Diamond 4 console. Finally, Avolites will show the latest software for Pearl 2004, including Shapes in Chases, Playback and Palette Legends, Quick Palettes, Filter Palettes and Palette Pages.
Avolites can be found on stand J30/J34 at the PLASA Show.

Jem offers more power with AF-2 fan
Jem's industry standard AF-1 has served the entertainment industry well as a multi-purpose fan for years, serving in clubs, studios and theatres, and on countless tours and events. A more powerful version of the AF-1 Fan, the AF-2, has now hit the market. Employed in a variety of ways - projecting smoke over long distances, converting smoke to haze, producing wind effects, or keeping equipment like amp and dimmer racks cool, or performers themselves - the AF-2 is all about moving air, namely awesome output and power! In fact, it is nearly three times as powerful as the AF-1.
Besides increased power and airflow, the overall design has been enhanced to become even more state of the art. Like its predecessor, the AF-2 features DMX as standard (both 3- and 5-pin) and can also be remote controlled with features such as auto timer, speed/output control and 8x mode, which expands the time capability of the standard timer settings by multiples of eight. The AF-2 can be easily truss mounted (the flying bracket is compatible with the Omega clamp system known from Martin fixtures) or floor positioned. For easy floor positioning an accessory 'touring frame' is the ideal option. The frame not only acts as extra protection, but also makes it easier to carry and move the fan around.
Useful in a variety of environments such as stage applications, theatres and theme parks, the AF-2 can be used alone or as part of a complete fog system by linking with other Jem machines for simultaneous operation between fan and smoke, and is an ideal way to convert a fogger into a hazer, say Jem.
The AF-2 incorporates a very high quality sealed fan motor designed to withstand high condensation levels associated with close proximity to smoke, and an airflow lens ensures maximum directional throw. The fan casing is constructed from aluminum sheet to make it easy for one person to carry; weight has been limited to only 17kg.

Selecon Pacific 5° High Effieciency Fixed Beam
The narrowest fixed beam to date!
Historically, theatre lighting designers have been unable to produce crisp shutter cuts or pattern projection in very long throw situations. The problem being the only luminaires available to date either utilise plastic lenses which cannot maintain the desired light output and beam quality or they have beam angles which are just too wide.
This issue has been addressed by Selecon in the shape of a new lighting tool - the Pacific 5° High Efficiency Fixed Beam has been designed as a no compromise long throw lens tube for the Selecon Pacific range. As yet another addition to the Pacific platform this specialist product is intended for long throw applications in large venues where performance of both light output and beam quality are the key criteria!
Featuring a dual glass lens design using a 300mm front lens this luminaire delivers more light than the Pacific 5.5°-13° Very Narrow Zoomspot (200mm front lens) with an unmatched beam quality. Shutter cuts are knife-edged (or with a well controlled soft cut – adjustable using the rear lens); high contrast pattern projections.
Match the Pacific 5HE Fixed Beam with the high performance light sources available for the Pacific range such as the 80V 1200W, an MSR or one of the mains voltage lamps and see for yourself the advantages that this luminaire can offer you in your next production.

New James Thomas PixelBrick
The innovative new PixelBrick is the latest in James Thomas Engineering's revolutionary Pixel range of LED fixtures. PixelBrick is available in two models - an indoor IP42 housing and an IP65 outdoor housing. Both utilize 3W blue and green and 1W red and amber Luxeon emitters.
The fixture's compact size makes it ideal for inaccessible places, and it's flexible enough to be used for curves, angles and corners. PixelBrick's silent, non mechanical additive colour mixing system is highly energy efficient for projecting colour, unlike the more wasteful process of filtering out white light.
It consumes just 48W at full power, easily displacing equipment running at 150W, whilst also creating up to 42 million potential colour combinations. It has a standard six degree beam and standard case colour is black. Alternative beam angles and body colours are also available.
For size-to-power output, PixelBrick is an ideal replacement for discharge, colour-changing or cold and warm white fixtures in all types of architectural, scenic and feature lighting applications, say the company.

Kupo's New Pro PAR with PARsafe Kupo Par
Whether you have to face the rigours of the production market, stand up to numerous hires every week or you yourself want to be reassured of the safety and robustness of what you have in your inventory; here is the can for you.
A lot of things have been said about the humble PAR can over the last couple of years in terms of safety issues and we have been no exception to this bad media over time. This is why we have gone back to the drawing board completely and sourced a new highly featured and robust PAR can. With this we feel that we have the safest PAR in the market. It has been heavily modeled on a design that is widely used in Germany, a country with some of the strictest standards of safety and quality control.

The popular aftermarket PARsafe lamp base is included as a standard feature. This means that the rear hole is now open to allow better ventilation but despite being open users cannot be exposed to live wires as the lamp base is completely sealed in a high temperature casing and the silicon cable is sleeved in a fiberglass sheath prolonging its life and reducing maintenance frequencies. No more cringing when focusing a PAR can.
The bottom edge of the can and the hat is rolled to increase its strength and prevent it from being squashed so easily. The rivets in the side holding the unit to its yoke have been strengthened with washers to prevent them from pulling out. An extra strengthened safety mesh has also been included to increase the units overall rigidity. All of these factors mean that your investment will be working long after purchase, making you money with the very least maintenance possible, and for a low dollar item like the PAR can this is most important.
ParsafeFor the first time on a PAR can in Australia our new Pro Par is featured with a hinged rear cap system. In the past the hat of the can has been attached (or sometimes attached) with a small safety wire, meaning lamp exchange whilst up a ladder or on truss became difficult. With the hinge system, it means that you can almost do a lamp exchange one handed, when you go to seal the can up again the hat will be right where you need it. There is also a hole in the colour frame if you wish to also attach a safety frame to it.
The new Pro Pars will be sold at the same price as the previous PAR cans, but Pro Shop decided to keep the old ones too. The existing PAR has been renamed the Classic Par and is now available at a lower price. Both the Classic PAR and new Pro PAR are available in black and polished finishes, in both 56 and 64 varieties.

Tell Your Lights Where to Go with Vocus from Enttec!
Vocus is an outstanding new Windows-based application that literally lets you tell your lights what you want them to do, by allowing vocal commands to control your DMX lighting system.
Vocus was developed to make the process of focussing lights quicker and simpler. Rather than hauling your console down to the stage and climbing up and down ladders to change levels, or having someone else man the console, you simply plug any standard microphone into your computer, (wireless mics are ideal), and use standard voice commands to control DMX levels. Vocus converts your voice into DMX signals, and outputs them to your dimmers or moving lights through a USB or Ethernet interface.
Compatible equipment includes Enttec’s Open DMX USB Interface and DMXEthergate, and Art-Net enabled interfaces. Vocus can even provide limited control of LightFactory – Enttec’s Lighting Control Software package.
Vocus uses voice recognition software that is trained by you in your own voice, so it always understands you. Controlled by logical, standard commands, such as “Channel 7 at full” and “Channel 4 thru 46 fade to 50”, Vocus is very easy to operate. You can control up to 512 channels, making it ideal for theatres, churches, schools, pub gigs – just about anywhere you have a DMX control system and a computer!
You can download a limited demonstration version of Vocus for free today from http://www.balancedtech.com.au/enttec/vox.htm so go ahead - try before you buy!

Home Automation Made Easy
Dynalite has released their latest generation commissioning software, DLWizard, which is set to revolutionise the way home automation systems are programmed. Many conventional lighting control and home automation system programming packages require users to select devices and configure them to application requirements. This approach generally requires the user to have comprehensive knowledge of each system device.
DLWizard’s new application-centric environment virtually eliminates the need for any prior product knowledge. DLWizard involves a number of intuitive steps b ased on scoping lighting control application requirements i.e. naming rooms and defining circuits or channels within rooms. The Wizard then uses this information to automatically determine the equipment required and assemble the data necessary to commission all network devices.
Additional steps enable the user to pre-configure preset lighting scenes or output states, schedule routine time clock control events and build sequential logic functions such as “welcome home” or “away” via easy-to-use dialogues with lookup fields for all command and function parameters. When completed, the user simply signs-on each device and the Wizard then auto configures the entire system.
DLWizard’s intuitive environment dramatically reduces the time required to scope and commission a control system. It is ideal for infrequent users, as all steps are clearly defined, requiring no knowledge of programming languages or ongoing familiarity to proficiently use the application.
Included with the DLWizard is a powerful reporting utility, which generates comprehensive documents outlining all configuration details. The report includes controller termination details in a format that can be readily provided to an installation electrician as a wiring schedule and provides the ideal solution for as-built documentation. In addition, the report can be run on project completion to capture any changes that have been made during commissioning. DLWizard includes an XML export facility, which enables data to be imported to a range of CAD packages to automate the creation of system drawings.
Sales people, systems integrators and electrical contractors can also use DLWizard to determine system requirements, leading to a dramatic reduction in commissioning time on site. Pre-commissioning the system means a technician can arrive on-site, sign-on the devices and download configuration data from the project file that was previously created and saved during the scoping stage.
DLWizard is available free of charge from your local Dynalite Distributor. Go to http://www.dynalite-online.com/html/contacts.htm to find your nearest Dynalite agent.
