Photoflex introduces HalfDome2(tm) softbox as fill, hair, or main light for both photography and video/film applications
The HalfDome2(tm) has been introduced by Photoflex as a softbox that provides fill, hair, or main light, and can be used in traditional and digital photography as well as video and film.
A new generation of the popular StripDome(tm) line of softboxes, the HalfDome2 features the previous long, narrow shape along with a new and wider rear profile that allows fitting with Photoflex's OctoConnector(tm) line of softbox adapters, or Connector FV(tm) adapters.
The interior comes in either soft white or silver. Soft white is suitable for a wide variety of traditional and digital photography uses. Silver is designed specifically for film and video applications.
HalfDome2 provides a focused highlight that adds volume and drama to any subject. The unique shape permits use as a hair light for multiple subjects, and a fill light with no over-spill onto the background. As a foreground light, the low profile makes it easy to shoot over.
The internal baffle eliminates hotspots to create even, natural lighting. The baffle and front diffusion face can be removed easily, allowing a change from soft diffusion to sharp contrast without adjusting the setup. The proprietary Duracloth(tm) fabric's thick exterior ensures no loss of light or energy. And the company's QRC(tm) (Quick-Release Corners) make setup and teardown a snap.
A handled carry bag is included for carrying and storing the softbox.
The white-interior HalfDome2 comes in a medium size (15x55x24"/38x140x6cm). The silver-interior HalfDome2 also comes in medium (15x55x24"/38x140x61 cm).
Photoflex Connectors
For use in traditional and digital photography, the Photoflex OctoConnector fits the HalfDome2 to most major strobe-lighting fixtures as well as to the
Photoflex Starlite 3200(tm), a tungsten light that provides soft, even, natural-looking continuous light. OctoConnectors are made of heavy-duty, heat-resistant cast aluminum, offering superior quality as well as durability.
For film and video applications, the Photoflex Connector FV fits the HalfDome2 to continuous lighting fixtures such as the Photoflex Starlite 3200. Fitting most lighting heads, the rugged Connector FV is all-metal, and will not break, melt, or warp.
40-degree Softbox Grid
The mouth of the HalfDome2 has been recessed so that Photoflex's 40-degree Softbox Grid(tm) can be added to provide precise control of light spread. The grid directs the light source, and keeps light from spilling onto a backdrop, floor, or ceiling. Unlike comparable products, the grid retains its shape indefinitely because every point of the nylon-webbed fabric is individually hand-sewn. Lightweight and portable, the grid responds well to daily setups and takedowns both on location and in the studio. A carry bag is provided for easy transport and storage.

Colour slides to rival the finest glass gobo?
DHA's years of experience in the field of image projection have enabled the development of a unique custom slide service, to complement its existing service offering specialist large-format slides and its extensive custom and catalogue gobo services.
"Responding to the success of Rosco's Image Pro (I-Pro) gobo slide projector," said managing director Diane Grant. "September sees the introduction of three new types of custom-made mounted slides, developed specifically with the I-Pro in mind. For use with the ETC Source4, the Selecon Pacifc and the Strand SL, each of the three options - bubble jet, bubble jet with silver mask and ciba transparency with silver mask - projects a full colour image to rival the resolution of a colour glass gobo and at a fraction of the cost!"
Ideal for projecting a full colour image during a short presentation, the bubble jet slide is output at a higher resolution than a typical inkjet printer and only begins to show signs of fading after 10 hours in a 575W fixture at full power. The bubble jet with the addition of a silver film mask, by producing a truly black background, creates the impression that the image is brighter - not only does this mean that the lantern may be run at reduced power, saving on energy and increasing lamp life, but the silver mask also protects the slide, lengthening its life to 25 hours when used at full power in a 575W fixture. The ultimate image is created using ciba transparency with silver mask, utilising photographic development techniques to produce extremely high calibre resolution and colour saturation, with a slide life in excess of 25 hours at 575W. What's more, the quality of a ciba transparency with silver mask can be enhanced further by using a DHA 'donut' to reduce secondary lens flare.
Available in just 24 hours for the bubble jet option, 48 hours for the bubble jet with silver mask and 72 hours for the ciba transparency with silver mask, these colour slides are tested for durability and colour degradation and provide a real alternative to the full colour glass gobo at a price customers can afford.

James Thomas Engineering Par 16 Outdoor
James Thomas Engineering has extended it’s lantern range recently with the addition of the Par 16 Outdoor, specially developed for all-weather conditions and rated to IP65. The lantern is constructed from corrosive-resistant cast aluminium and is robust and durable.
The unit is ideal for lighting small buildings or detail lighting of specific areas, gardens, outdoor exhibitions (e.g. fashion catwalks) and other features.
The lightweight design (0.8 Kg per unit) allows the incorporation of a 49 mm diameter dichroic glass inside the fixture, offering great damage resistance and keeping the colour clean. This dichroic is available in all colours.
Two types of lantern are available - one version for all MR16 12 Volt lamps, and the other featuring the new GU10 lampholder for 230 Volt Par 16 lamps. The unit comes with a standard cable length of 60 cm, but any length can be specified. Transformers should be housed separately and in a suitable housing for the application.
A disposable barn door can be fitted to the lantern for beam-shaping. Any colour in the RAL/BS range can be specified - ideal for specific applications or environments where lights are required to blend in.
All models conform to the low voltage directive and are CE marked.

Sourced regionally, these additional products offer extremely good value-for-money, whilst ensuring the most important factor, quality, is not compromised.
The new products complement the entire FX Range with a wide selection of simple lighting effects and associated products.
Initial additions are products which are similar to currently popular items in the market and these will be supplemented over the coming months after further consultation with the market regarding its requirements.

PCM Pilewind wins PLASA Product Excellence Award
PCM, Merseyside-based rigging, lifting and moving specialists, won the 2002 PLASA Product Excellence Award for Design Excellence in the Stage Engineering category for their battery, air line, manual or electric drill driven Pilewind winch.
PCM’s John Jones comments, “It’s fantastic! PCM researched extensively before developing the Pilewind, which resulted in it being a highly practical, easy to use and very rugged product. It’s great to see the efforts of all the whole team – from R ‘n’ D right through to sales – recognised in the winning of this PLASA Award”.
Six of PCM’s Pilewind winches have recently been installed into the Carnegie Hall in Dunfermline with great success.
The PLASA Product Excellence Awards – which embrace innovation and forward thinking - were presented at the buzzing 2002 PLASA show in Earls Court, London on Tuesday 10th September.
PCM’s Pilewind is designed for multipurpose theatrical applications, lessening the physical strain of hand-winding assorted objects up and down.
Available in 250 Kg or 500 Kg models, the Pilewind winch offers quick and easy raising and lowering of elements like stage scenery and lighting bars.
Fully contained within a protective housing, the Pilewind winch has a drum capacity of 10 metres and up to 5 suspension lines. An integral self-sustaining gearbox maintains the applied load.
With practical installation and maintenance elements in mind, PCM’s designers ensured the Pilewind can be totally stripped down, into three controllable sections, simply by removing 5 bolts.
In the event of a power failure, the Pilewind can also be raised and lowered by hand using a separate drive shaft.

PLASA Awards 2002
The PLASA Awards for Product Excellence were presented yesterday evening in the New Technology Gallery in front of a packed audience. This year’s awards attracted one of the largest tallies of nominations ever - 64 in total - across the categories of Lighting, Sound, Audio-Visual and Stage Engineering.
The judging panel of freelance lighting designer Simon Swift, sound system consultant Richard Northwood of Coms UK, Live Business International’s technical director Roland Hemming, freelance AV consultant Phil Pike, system designer Glyn Hughes of Sysco, project manager Andy Hayles from Theatre Projects Consultants, technical consultant Mark Jones of the Royal Albert Hall and Jason Tang, general manager of Bandit Lites (UK), deliberated over three days to decide the winning products in each category.
In the Lighting category, Clay Paky’s Stage Profile Plus SV received a Highly Commended in the design excellence category, for what was felt to be the best design of automated shutters among the moving profiles nominated. In the category for Innovation, a highly commended went to Martin Professional for its moving barndoors on the MAC2000 wash, which the judges felt was a notable step forward in the automated light industry. The MAC2000 Performance also drew the same accolade for being the first moving light to incorporate gobo animation effects, in association with DHA. However, the Award For Design Excellence went to a brand new company - Bright Lighting - which has further embraced the recent boom in LED lighting technology with its Colour Stream system and presented it in a way that the judges felt would make serious in-roads into the architectural lighting market. The judges also felt that the product had been well thought out, both in terms of overall effect, usability and ease of installation, and that its cost would probably see it being widely adopted.
The judges also felt that other innovations were worthy of special mention: Artistic Licence’s development of innovative new control methods for LED technology; the design work in sophisticated lighting control systems as represented in Flying Pig Systems’ Whole Hog III, Martin Professional’s Maxxyz, ETC’s Emphasis and Avolites’ Diamond 4 and the practical applications of Rosco’s Image Pro.
The Lighting Award for Technical Innovation went to Le Mark’s Gel-Tak. Designed to allow the user to stick gel, black wrap or other such material to windows, frames, lights or any other surface cleanly without leaving a residue on either surface, and capable of operating at the higher temperatures associated with lighting, the product really found favour with the judges who experimented with its ability to cope even after liberal applications of mineral water!
There were some good products nominated in the Stage Engineering category including Slick’s Catwalk system, which the judges felt would be a good contender when the design is revised for the touring industry. However, the Award for Design Excellence went to PCM for its Pilewind system, which the judges felt was well thought out, easy to maintain and easy to operate.
The Audio-Visual category had some notable entries this year. Stardraw entered its software, Stardraw.net - the first lighting software to be completely on-line and thus benefiting from regular updating. Barco was also considered for its Events Controller, allowing flexible show control options. The judges decided that Martin Professional’s Virostation should be highly commended for Design Exellence. The Award for Technical Innovation, however, went to Pani for its e-Slide system. By using an LCD screen and developing a method of keeping it cool, it opens up the options for large-scale live video projection using existing projectors.

This new product offers excellent flexibility in a low cost package and can rotate one or two steel or glass gobos at fixed or variable speed. The speed of rotation can be set through a switch adjustment on the plug (for fixed speed) or by lowering the dimmer (for variable speeds). The Vortex 360 doesn’t require an additional power supply - the transformer plug can be plugged directly into a wall outlet or, using a low cost adapter, into a dimmer. The Vortex 360 fits the iris slot of such fixtures as the ETC Source Four, the Altman Shakespeare, the Strand SL, the Selecon Pacific and many similar instruments.
Rosco’s range of decorative material for events, promotions or theatrical design has been greatly expanded, updated and modernised. The materials have been improved, and the range now includes diffractions and iridescents for stunning scenic effects on stage, in event rooms or on film. Rosco Slitdrape has also been given a new addition: a fluorescent finish which picks up light and reflects it for scenic applications in theatre, disco or club use, and will be available to special order in 2.4m, 4.9m, and 7.3m lengths.
In the floor range, Rosco have added a sub floor which is made up on a frame to create a solid floor which doesn’t move - very useful for uneven surfaces or to create a professional dance floor where non exists. The subfloor can be covered with any of Rosco’s dance floors.
The ImagePro has been nominated for a PLASA Product Excellence Award.

Robe Lighting at PLASA
Robe, the prolific moving light manufacturer from the Czech Republic, is exhibiting at PLASA for the first time, taking the opportunity to launch a completely new line of products. Robe will be sharing Stand K19 with its new UK distributors Coe-tech.
Robe is already familiar to owners and users of several well known moving light brands - for which it’s been a long-term OEM manufacturer. These include Movitec, Futurelight, TAS, Elation, Sagitter and others. Robe is using the international forum of PLASA to launch itself as a direct sales operation, at the same time launching its new AT (Advanced Technology) Series - initially with four models, with more to follow later in the year.
ColorSpot 170 AT (pictured right) follows on from where the popular Color Spot 160 XT left off. The product is designed for multiple applications, and is ideal for architecturally lighting bars, restaurants, shops, product launches and events, retail environments and for use as an image projector for advertising. The Color Spot 170 offers many more features than its predecessor, including a new rotating gobo wheel, a new colour wheel, remote focus facility, a special colour and gobo changing system, remote lamp on/off and fast movement. Onboard master/slave programming enables 300 scenes to be stored in the onboard memory making it ideal for stand-alone operation.
The ColorMix 250 AT is a static colour changer with a fresnel lens, CMY colour mixing plus additional colour wheel with six dichroic colours and open, beam shaper, frost filter, dimmer shutter and an optional barn door fitting for the front. The fixture can be floor-standing or wall/ceiling mounted and offers the same functionality needed as Robe’s 250 Wash moving head. The Color Mix 250 is aimed at theatres, TV studios, stage lighting and interior and exterior architectural lighting.
ColorMix 150 AT wash is a PC washlight. Its colour wheel offers 11 dichroic slots plus open, and it has a dimmer shutter. James Thomas to launch Pixel range at PLASA 2002
PLASA 2002 sees James Thomas Engineering celebrate the world launch of a new series of solid state lighting fixtures using high brightness LEDs. The first three models of the extensive Pixel range are The Pixelpar 660 - a Par 64-sized fixture, The Pixelpar 87 - a Par 36-sized equivalent and the Pixeline 1044 batten - a solid state lighting batten. The Pixel range is designed for a wide range of entertainment and leisure industry applications including architectural, retail, installation, clubs, bars, restaurants, sports venues, and live shows and events and theatre.
The team at James Thomas has spent the last 12 months developing the new products, and conducting considerable market research into the advantages and uses of LED lighting. The Pixel range has an unsurpassed silent, non-mechanical, additive colour-mixing system and the fixtures can produce stunning and instant effects - from subtle dissolves to fast, high-impact stroboscopic colour sequences. The heat and energy saving properties (typically 90%) of solid state lighting guarantee its future success and the technology is predicted to replace incandescent light bulb sources during the next decade.
Pixel range has inventively addressed the problematic areas of cooling, and JTE is confident when it claims the product will last many years. The neatness of the design means the LED population density is higher than that of competitor products. View these and other new additions from James Thomas Engineering at the PLASA Show.

Martin Offers A Guide to Animation Effects for MAC 2000 Performance
Martin Professional has produced A Guide to Animation Effects for the MAC 2000 Performance designed to illustrate the myriad of effects possible from the profile spot’s unique gobo animation system.
Released this past spring and already selling in large quantities around the world, the 1200-watt MAC 2000 Performance’s animation feature has proved instrumental in the fixtures’ popularity among lighting designers.
The system offers lighting designers a wealth of new projection possibilities through the use of animation discs – fire and flames, sky and clouds, waves and water, snow and flurries, and more. The gobo animation wheel system was recently enhanced with the launch of a set of six new animation wheel designs.
In order that the disc animation system is used to its full potential Martin has produced the guide as an aid in creating these distinct effects. The guide explains the theory behind gobo animation and offers tips on how to achieve a wide variety of effects. It explains each animation disk in detail and how it is best used. Further in the guide are some specific examples of effects that can be achieved and the gobos that are necessary to recreate them.
The art of gobo animation may not be new but the adaptation of such a system into a moving light is. In addition to the effect possibilities, the animation disc can be controlled via DMX to adjust starting position, rotation direction and speed. Alignment can also be set - horizontal, vertical or anywhere in between. Furthermore, the animation disc can run continuously or in an indexing mode.
By talking to LDs around the world about gobo animation, Martin has designed a system that is as flexible as possible. The guide will be used to demonstrate to customers the full flexibility of the MAC 2000 Performance and its advantages over competing products.
The guide is currently available on the Martin website as a download from the service section (http://www.martin.dk/service ) and on the website’s MAC 2000 Performance page. It will also be incorporated into each MAC 2000 Performance user manual.

GE Lighting Value*Light Software
If you are thinking about upgrading your lighting system, have a look at GE Lighting's new, user-friendly Value*Light™ software package, an upgraded cost-of-light analysis program. The software analyses the cost of owning and operating a lighting system, compares different systems, and directs customers to the best economic alternative. The software also looks at the estimated investment needed to upgrade the current lighting system and calculates the expected payback period.
Value*Light begins by asking the user to examine the existing lamps in a facility. The programme allows the user to change the number of fixtures between the existing system and the alternate. Once the basic information about existing and alternate lamps and ballasts is input from the included database, the programme compiles tables and charts and provides economic comparisons between the two systems. If a user is comparing several systems within a facility, an overall estimated payback period for the entire investment can be calculated.
Contrary to popular belief, cost of light is not the purchase price of the lamps themselves; it’s primarily the lamps’ energy usage. The lamp purchase represents only a small fraction, 4 percent, of the overall cost of light.
For example, US$4,000 a year in lamp replacement costs may add up to US$88,000 per year in electric energy costs. The exact ratio will depend on the kind of lamps used and energy costs in the area.
Energy efficient lamps that use 20 percent less power, while providing the same amount of light, could save you approximately US$17,000 a year on your energy bills.
GE's analysis of a 50,000 square-foot retail store that replaced older F40 Cool White T12 fluorescent lamps with new GE electronic ballasts and GE T8 lamps (with the patented Starcoat™ technology) averaged US$13,000 in annual electrical energy cost savings. Thousands of stores, factories and offices are making this simple lamp switch out each year and getting similar savings.
GE T8 fluorescent lamps are built with Starcoat™ technology, which offers superior lumen maintenance over life of the lamp. A 32-watt T8 lamp operating on an efficient electronic ballast, has a higher maintained light output that a 40-watt T12 lamp. This setup also eliminates light flicker and offers improved color.
The small investment in labor and ballasts will result in a phenomenal payback by recovering more than half your investment in the first year alone–almost 60 percent return on investment!
With those figures in mind, a 50-store retail chain would save approximately US$2.7 million in energy costs over the life of the lamps. Offices, factories and other retail venues would benefit from similar savings. The more hours a day you burn the lamps, the faster the payback period for your investment.

The Value*Light software programme is downloadable from the GE website at http://www.gelighting.com/na/specoem/valuelight.html

Lumileds Luxeon LEDs rivals halogen lights
Lumileds Lighting announced today that its Luxeon LED light sources have enabled TIR Systems to develop the first solid-state RGB colorwash fixture with light output comparable to halogen and metal halide systems. The use of LEDs also gives the Destiny Colorwash Luminaire a far slimmer silhouette, lower energy consumption and longer life than conventional products, with the light source expected to last for the life of the fixture.
The new indoor/outdoor Destiny colorwash fixture utilizes 60 Luxeon 1-Watt red, green and blue emitters, each producing between 5 and 40 lumens of light. These LED lamps and the Luxeon 5-Watt, which generates a record-shattering 120 lumens of white light from a single emitter, are by far the highest power LEDs on the market.
As a result of Luxeon’s high light output, the Destiny Colorwash Luminaire provides light performance equivalent to a mid-range halogen or low-range metal halide fixture, far outstripping similar solid-state products. TIR has designed new optics, power conversion and control technology to produce light distribution, colour mixing and programmability comparable to conventional wall-washing systems.
TIR also has taken advantage of the tiny size of the LED light sources to create a fixture that is roughly the size of a notebook computer. This sleek profile, measuring 11” wide x 13” long x 2-1/2” deep, offers aesthetic and installation advantages for the architectural and retail display lighting markets.
The red, green and blue LEDs of the Destiny Colorwash Luminaire can be mixed to create any colour or white. Each fixture can operate on a standalone basis with a pre-programmed set of display choices such as alternating coluors, while multiple fixtures can be connected to a standard DMX theatrical programming system for complete display flexibility.

The new DR1 - by Coemar
Throughout history Coemar has lead the charge bringing innovative ideas and products to our industry. Now we have the beginning of a range of unique tools that will become a vital part of every lighting operators or technicians tool kit.
Imagine a device that will nearly eliminate the need to get access to fixtures when programming or servicing your lighting equipment.
Imagine a device that will allow you to check on the functions and functioning history off a fixture from anywhere in a venue.
Imagine a device that will eventually allow you to interrogate and alter fixtures over a phone line (in the future).
The first step is the DR1 - a device that will talk to several Coemar fixtures (for a complete list, see below) and also have your fixtures talk back to the device over a normal 3 core DMX cable (DMX512-A).
DR1 takes full advantage of bi-directional communications or DMX 512A. In plain terms, while most control devices speak to the projector, the DR1 also receives communication back from the fixture. It is a device which, when inserted into the DMX 512A chain, replicates all functions and information which until now were accessed only via a fixture's on-board display panel.
A single DR1 allows the operator to remote access as many as 250 fixtures, negating the need for direct contact with the fixture's display panel. Following is a partial list of features you can access from a remote position:
- Alter the fixture's DMX address
- Turn on or off the lamp
- Select master or slave operating modes (Panorama 250 Cyc, Panorama 250 Cyc C, iSPOT 150, ProSpot 150 LX, iCYC 250, Color Cyc 250LX)
- Record and monitor programs using PPF (iSpot 150 and ProSpot 150 LX)
- Visualize internal functions without opening the projector (Panorama 250 Cyc, Panorama 250C Cyc)
- Utilize an extensive digital function menu on DIP Switch equipped fixtures (Panorama Cyc 250 C, ColorCyc 250LX)
- Visualize error messages and auto-diagnostics
- View fixture and lamp life readings to anticipate service and maintenance scheduling

Jelly-Light
The Jelly-light is a unique, eye-catching light sculpture. The extraordinary combination of materials used creates an unusual lighting effect which can be applied almost anywhere. The technique used, allows the colour and the intensity of the light to vary constantly and has therefore a special effect on character of the environment where the Jelly-light is installed.
The light-source of the Jelly-light is fitted inside a light generator fitted with an energy-saving MHR150 watt bulb. An optional colour wheel, with a range of colours, can be supplied with the generator. In combination with a programmable system you can create dynamic light- and colour-scenes to the light.
Fiber optics Light from the generator reaches the Jelly-light through fibers which are infused in transparent rubber. Due to the light conducting quality of the fibers, the generator can be placed up to eight meters away from the Jelly-light with negligible loss of light. This means that the Jelly-light can be installed in relatively inaccessible places, while the generator remains easily accessible.
The Jelly-lights are available in the standard diameters 1.5, 2, 2.5 and 3 meters. Since the Jelly-light only conducts the light it is absolutely safe - it doesn't produce heat and no electricity is involved. All electrical components are inside the generator.

Martin Releases Fresnel Version of MAC 2000
Martin’s third fixture in the MAC 2000 Series is ready for release. Continuing the MAC tradition for excellence, the new MAC 2000 Wash boasts a number of notable features including extremely high light output from an HMI 1200-watt source, full CMY colour mixing and variable CTC filters, multiple front lens options for various beam spreads, fully motorized zoom system and more.
Created as a response to market demands for a powerful 1200-watt MAC Fresnel fixture, the MAC 2000 Wash combines some of the best features of the MAC 2000 Profile and MAC 600 eNT and was specifically produced as a complementary fixture to the other MACs in the 2000 Series, the MAC 2000 Profile and MAC 2000 Performance. The MAC 2000 Wash comes with electronic ballast as standard.
Martin's goal was to produce a fixture that was not only consistent with the look and quality of existing MAC 2000 products, but to provide a flexible solution for a large-scale washlight capable of long throw projection.
The MAC 2000 Wash uses the HMI 1200-watt lamp at its source, supported by a brand new reflector design that was specially designed for this high-powered washlight. The result is a fixture that is the brightest Martin Professional has ever produced.

To the zoom lens system has been added a very special feature - 'power mode'. For additional punch the zoom lens can be removed from the optical path. This gives a fixed and narrow, yet extremely powerful, beam. The fact that this can be automated and controlled by DMX is unique to the MAC 2000 Wash.
In this mode the light output of the fixture increases to approximately 32,000 lumens at 11 degrees using the Fresnel lens, and over 33,000 lumens at 12 degrees using the PC lens- a staggering amount of light for a 1200-watt source fixture.
Where more control of the beam is required an optional motorized barndoor module will be available by September of this year. The barndoor mechanism consists of four plates that fit onto the front of the fixture and allow you to cut the beam wherever desired.

Avolites has launched the Pearl 2004, an updated and streamlined version of its popular live console - the Pearl 2000. The 2004 version uses new technology and offers a host of improvements.
It also uses the same professional master faders as Avolites’ Diamond 4 for the 15 Cue Playbacks and Master Faders. On the output panel, 2048 DMX channels are provided on four separate DMX connectors. Internally, the software OS has been upgraded to the 2004 version. Source Four MultiPAR batten from ETC
With ETC's new MultiPAR batten, theatre, television, film, and concert lighting designers now have a powerful new light source.
ETC has reinvented the classic theatre batten. The technology - basically a long metal box filled with ordinary par lamps - has remained unchanged for years, but ETC’s new MultiPAR has put an end to that, transforming this traditional theatre workhorse into a powerful thoroughbred.
The new fixture combines the optics and energy-savings of the Source Four PAR (EA) with the functionality and flexibility of the classic batten. The patented lamps - 375W, 575W or 750W - offer energy efficiency, providing more illumination with over 40% less energy use. The simplicity of design of the ETC Source Four PAR is maintained throughout the MultiPAR, allowing for easy lamp replacement and high quality focus from the moment it is turned on. Meanwhile, its rugged housing and construction will withstand the wear and tear of the most demanding stage or road productions. The fixture is available in five standard configurations: 3, 4, or 12-lamp strips, plus two 3 x 3 versions, a yoke-mounted unit and a stand-mounted unit with in-line switches. For lighting venues with unique needs, a custom-length version is also available.
The compact design of the MultiPAR allows ETC to offer twelve lamps in one 2.5m (8ft) long strip. Because lighting designers' needs change between three and four-colour batten designs, ETC has also engineered MultiPAR's circuiting to be switchable between three and four circuits. From one job to another, there is the flexibility to use the same batten for three circuits of four or four circuits of three lamps. End users will also be pleased to cut down on lamp inventory: instead of VNSP, NSP, MFL and WFL par lamps, each cell in the MultiPAR comes with four lenses and just one HPL lamp.

Vari*Lite VL1000 named Lighting Product of the Year
The Association of British Theatre Technicians (ABTT) named the VARI*LITE® VL1000™ ellipsoidal reflector spotlight Lighting Product of the Year at its recent awards dinner.
A panel of judges comprised mainly of end-users, recognized the tungsten source of the VL1000 ERS, which offers extremely high-quality color rendition. The experts also noted the silent operation of the unit, as well as its positioning ability and effective beam shutters. According to ABTT Executive Director Howard Bird, the decision was also influenced by positive reports from lighting designers, acousticians and other theater professionals.
"The VL1000 ERS is one of the most exciting luminaires Vari-Lite has ever manufactured," said Vari-Lite President and COO Clay Powers. "By taking one of the most popular conventional lighting tools ever used, the ellipsoidal reflector spotlight, and automating it, we have developed, from all indications, the new workhorse of the lighting industry. For the VL1000 ERS to receive such high praise from ABTT and the lighting professionals who use the product is quite an honor."
