Osram LED Modules
Osram have introduced a range of LED modules with applications in decorative, safety, signage and display lighting. Each of the modules consists of a number of LED elements mounted on a circuit board (either rigid or flexible). The circuit board also carries the appropriate current regulation devices, and can optionally be terminated with standard "Conny" connectors from BJB. Osram also produce matching power supplies with the appropriate Conny connections. This system removes the need for any in house development or assembly work to incorporate large quantities of LEDs in projects.
The module types available are LINEARlight and LINEARlight FLEX for lines light for guidance or decorative applications, BACKlight for backlighting signage or display elements, MARKERlight for backing indicators and nameplates, TAGlight for illuminating nametags and information panels, COINlight for circular decorative and end lighting applications, and EFFECTlight for high brightness architectural or decorative coloured trim lighting.

Eleven new colours for the Lee 700 Series Designer Colours
Lee Filters have recently released 11 new colours to further expand the 700 Series Designer Range to an impressive 46 colours. All of these new colours were created by individual lighting designers in the Lee Filters Research and Development Laboratories in Andover, England.
The new 700 Series Colours were created by Chris Davey, Chris Ellis and David Whitehead, who were able to take their ideas forward by mixing and blending colours, producing the samples for testing and field trials, and then fine tuning each colour until they had achieved exactly the effect they wanted. The colours are then named and added to the 700 Series following a very stringent quality control process.
The new Lee Filters Swatchbook with an orange pin is now available for you to sample the creations of these three 700 Series designers.
The new colours are as follows:
Chris Davey - 722 Bray Blue, 712 Bedford Blue, 748 Seedy Pink
Chris Ellis - 717 Shanklin Frost, 718 Half Shanklin Frost, 714 Elysian Blue, 798 Chrysalis Pink
David Whitehead - 767 Oklahoma Yellow, 794 Pretty 'n Pink, 709 Electric Lilac, 795 Magical Magenta

New Curtain Track from Doughty
Doughty Engineering has launched a brand new curtain track. Named 'Six Track', it has been designed and produced after consultation with end users and installers and Doughty claim that it overcomes several of the problems users say they experience with existing products.
Available from stock, the track is made up of a tubular top hanger bar and rectangular section tube rails, all finished in black powder coat. No rivets are used in the manufacture of Six Track components, all of which are assembled using 5mm nuts and bolts throughout, which means that modifying sections or adding pulleys can be done without re-threading hauling lines. A range of fully adjustable brackets has also been developed for hanging the track.
A range of standard radius corners is available, with an extra bonus of a 'tighter' corner (500mm radius) and curtains can also be 'parked' on the corners. A special rope carrier has been developed so that should a hauling line become detached from its guides, it will be automatically re-located the next time the curtains are drawn in either direction.
A variety of hauling mechanisms is available from the simple hand-haul system with weighted pulley to a motor-driven system, with a hand-wound trackdrive as the mid-range choice. The trackdrive and motor options feature a brand new, self-tensioning mechanism. Again, all of these system are 'modular' and bolted, so that last minute fixes and maintenance are not only possible, but also fast and easy.
Six Track sections are supplied individually boxed for ease of storage and protection in transport.

Martin Trackpod
TrackPod, the tracking tripod for automated follow-spots and instant focusing, is a single-operator multiple-followspot controller used in large arenas and stages. This patented instrument is designed to track performers in three dimensions, automatically directing intelligent lights to follow a performer wherever they move. The TrackPod calculates where, in 3D, the operator is pointing and, helped by a laser calibration system, directs up to 128 lighting fixtures to that exact spot.
This single operator system maximises the use of the intelligent lighting plot and saves the cost of hiring multiple followspots and followspot operators. On-board faders and buttons allow the operator to optionally control the fixtures' dimmer, iris, colour, zoom or any other DMX channel.
TrackPod is the perfect automated followspot system for concerts, theatres, stadiums, arenas, ice rinks & TV studios. It has won a LIVE! Lighting Product of the Year award as well as a PLASA Award for Product Excellence. Customers love automated followspots because they can save money on followspot operators and rentals, keep performers lit at all times even with a small number of fixtures and have dozens of light beams automatically intersecting on performers. TrackPod also gives new vitality to existing moving light installations as well as illuminating stages where normal followspots do not fit.

Spotlight Luminaire Modular Motorisation System
The new range of Spotlight motorised luminaries include Plano Convex, Fresnel and Profiles with a lamp power range of 1000W to 5000W in both tungsten and discharge. However due to the modular design of the system, the Spotlight motorisation can be fitted to a wide variety of other manufacturers lighting fixtures.
The Spotlight motorisation features silent operation, 360o rotation, precise positioning resolution, smooth and continuous acceleration and deceleration functions, no reset required, last achieved position after power failure, and original position recovery if accidentally moved after changing the lamp.
Applications include professional theatre, television studios and multi-function halls. The motorised system is particularly effective when faster and more accurate positioning is required than is possible with traditional lighting fixtures, when the units are in hard to reach positions, when a large number cannot be installed due to limited power or space, or if there is not sufficient time to change their position due to rapid scene or show changes.
Options include electro mechanical dimmers for discharge lamps, and scroller colour changers.

Soundlight 3512A Pocket DMX Tester
Enttec, manufacturers of the EVO moving light console are now distributing the Soundlight 3512A Pocket DMX Tester. This competitively-priced tester, incorporates all of the standard DMX512 testing and cable checking functions required for system maintenance and installation work, along with a 16 state snapshot memory. What sets this tester apart from most others is the ability to undertake both analogue (continuity) and digital (DMX data flow) cable tests, as well as its capacity to test the actual voltages in a DMX data stream. These functions are invaluable for solving DMX network problems on a complex show rig or in an installation. An analogue level fader and the 36 channel level display also help to make the Pocket DMX Tester a very useful tool.

High End Systems Introduces a Brighter x.Spot
While many lighting professionals have found the light output of the x.Spot(TM) automated luminaire to be acceptable and very usable for many applications, these users and others have requested even more output from the unit for long throw and high ambient light conditions. In response to these requests, High End Systems announces the release of a new, fully modular 2:1 zoom optic system for the x.Spot, along with a new faceted "flat field" reflector. This version of x.Spot is designated x.Spot HO (High Output).
Additional output is primarily achieved through the larger aperture (higher "f stop") and greater efficiency of the 2:1 zoom lens system, while increased colour temperature and improved beam uniformity are a result of the faceted reflector. High End Systems offers the lighting professional a choice of two zoom systems. For example, a designer could specify 4:1 zoom fixtures for shorter throw, wide projection applications and 2:1 zoom fixtures for longer throw or beamage applications where output is king and ultra wide zoom range is not critical.
High End Systems begins shipment of x.Spot HO in May. This unit contains 2:1 zoom optics and faceted reflector for maximum output. High End will of course continue to offer x.Spot with 4:1 zoom optics. The 4:1 zoom unit will also now include the faceted "flat field" reflector, thus incorporating the higher color temperature and flattened field benefits of this technology.
For owners of x.Spots who wish to integrate the 2:1 zoom optics and flat field reflector into existing units:
Because all of the components discussed may be retrofitted to original x.Spots, High End Systems is offering a special "x.Spot Owner Loyalty Program" through authorized High End Systems dealers through June 15, 2002. A package is being offered at a greatly reduced price to x.Spot owners containing the following items:
2:1 zoom lens
Faceted "flat field" glass reflector
New, longer life Philips MSR 700/SA lamp
New fixture software
Installation instructions
High End Systems will also offer the 2:1 zoom lens and the flat field reflector separately. This allows users to either add the reflector to their 4:1 fixtures, or just the 2:1 lens for users who have already opted to add the flat field reflector. Keep in mind that if any x.Spot is refitted with the flat field reflector, the diffusion on the CTB wheel will need to be removed for maximum benefit and output.

JEM Glaciator
A sea of ground hugging fog is one of the most desirable theatrical effects. This effect is now made simple thanks to the Jem Glaciator.
Replacing the larger, more costly, three phase heavy fog machines, the Glaciator needs only a 13 amp power supply and a bottle of low cost Jem Standard Heavy Fog Fluid. Unlike other machines on the market, the Glaciator does not require CO2 cylinders and separate fog machines to complete the package. The Glaciator is a fully integrated, self contained, "plug-in and go" low fog generating system.
Its lower cost means that multi-machine use is a more realistic consideration, allowing the user much better stage coverage. And as you would expect from this Jem product, the Glaciator is completely compatible with all external DMX sources.
An optional Power Ducting Adapter (PDA) is available that allows lengths of ducting to be fitted to the front of the machine for delivering ground hugging heavy fog to those more awkward locations. The adapter has a built-in booster fan which helps project the effect along longer lengths of ducting.
Its rugged design makes the Glaciator an ideal product for the touring market, and thanks to its compactness and low power consumption it is also ideal for dance floor effects.

MA Lighting is well known for its technical know-how and has achieved an enviable international reputation for its operational philosophy. MA´s award-winning products are extremely reliable and offer cutting-edge solutions for dimming and control.
As the Australian distributor for MA Lighting Show Technology will be launching the grandMA range of consoles at Entech 2002.
grandMA - The grandMA console is the largest console physically and is a real operators console. Three colour touch screens and up to two external monitors makes for an extremely comfortable programming environment. Twenty motorised faders, build in keyboard, mouse, mouse pad and trackball along with 4 parameter encoders gives operators and programmers a luxurious programming and playback surface.
grandMA light - With all of the same software, features and channels the grandMA light is a reduced console only in physical size. Anything that can be programmed on a full grandMA can be played back on a grandMA light while at the same time offering full programming facilities itself. As well as making the grandMA light ideal for environments where physical space is at a premium the console also makes a great backup to the larger grandMA.
grandMA ultra-light - This small yet highly powerful 1,024 channel console features the same award winning software as the grandMA and grandMA light consoles. With its reduced footprint, a full colour TFT touch screen display along with built-in trackball / mouse and support for an external monitor, the grandMA ultra- light is an extremely portable and very adaptable programming environment. The grandMA ultra-light is completely compatible with the rest of the grandMA range. Shows can be programmed on one of the larger consoles and then played back or edited on the ultra-light.
grandMA replay unit - This 3U high 19'' rack mounting unit is an entire grandMA console in an enclosure perfect for unattended playback or remote triggering. As well as featuring all the inputs and all the outputs of a full grandMA console this tiny unit has 10 physical playbacks (5 with faders) on the front of the unit so basic manual playback is also possible, unusual for units of this type. As with all grandMA products this unit can be connected to full console via Ethernet as a tracking backup.
grandMA 3D - grandMA 3D is a visualisation software created for the design of three-dimensional stage layouts. The software allows a wizard guided design and set up of any custom stage or scenery layout with 2D drawing facilities and a library of basic graphical elements. Multiple windows can be opened and updated at the same time, and all the stage elements can be positioned in X, Y, Z directions and may also be rotated around the various axes. The set-up of lanterns, luminaires or moving lights can be simply retrieved from the grandMA console's show file by electronic transfer. There is no need to set DMX lines, DMX addresses or operation modes as these are already pre-adjusted in the grandMA console. The software will be compatible with the whole family of MA Lighting consoles.

ENTTEC Launches EVO
ENTTEC has announced the release of its flag ship product, the EVO. This is a new generation of lighting desks based around Ethernet and new technologies. The hardware is based on a large 5'7 blue back lit touch screen LCD and seven motorised faders. The EVO communicates through its Ethernet port, and plugging your DMX lighting is as easy as using Enttec's standard DMXEthergate suite of products, or an other DMX over Ethernet solution.
The EVO has been designed for maximum ease of use and no-fuss programming. The in-built effects engine is similar to the ones you would find in the top of the range desks. The user interface gives constant feedback over the current show or programming actions using plain English sentences. Thanks to the motorised faders, the user will be able to program scenes like an analog desk or run entire cuelists from one submaster. Enttec have also included new features such as semi-automatic crossfades and web remote control.
The EVO is not built around a PC and uses an industrial real time operating system for added reliability. Fixture libraries can be downloaded from the Enttec web services website or edited using the easy-to-use web editor, and it will be the base of the company's lighting control products. After the initial release there are plans to develop the software to included a networking programming, where multiple desks on the same network could be used to program the same show, or remote Ethernet based processing nodes to upgrade the processing power. There is also have a range of add-ons and options in the pipeline including an off-line editor, an expansion wing with more faders, buttons and a trackball, low cost play back unit, and expansion modules such as sound inputs and VGA video ouput.
Considering its numerous advanced features and very attractive price, the EVO can bring new lighting technologies to every venue, claim Enttec. EVO specifications include up to 2048 DMX channels, 100 moving lights and 300 dimmer channels. Storage is memory-linked and estimated to hundreds of cues, cuelists, pages, groups, palettes and macros. Hardware involves a 5'7 inch backlit touch-screen LCD, 7 motorised faders, three rotary encoders, size 510mm x 280mm x 90mm, floppy disk drive, dimmable desk light, two expansion ports and an Ethernet port. The EVO is available in three factory colours (red, blue, black) or custom colour (optional). It will be launched at the Entech trade show in Sydney (4-6 Feb).
