Recent advances in dimming technology may not have been attracting as much of the limelight as the all-singing, all-dancing performances from moving and robotic lights, but plenty has been going on. Dimming is getting so good that once installed, you can pretty much forget that it's there. And if you think that you know what can or can't be dimmed, or how dimming can be controlled, you might be surprised to see just what's been going on lately.

ALIA's Dimming Technology Expo is your chance to see what's happening in this field. The premiere expo of the series will be held in the foyer of the Melbourne Museum, Carlton Gardens at 7:30pm on Tuesday November 18th.

  • Paint the REB!

The Dimming Expo will be held in conjunction with another new venture for ALIA - your chance to Paint a Building with light. In this case the building is Melbourne's historic landmark, the Royal Exhibition Building, immediately adjacent to the Museum. Once the sun has set (at around 8:30pm), participants will have an opportunity to program their own lighting looks, using the REB's permanently installed rig of Studio Due CityColor, Clay Paky Golden Scan and Clay Paky Stage Zoom fixtures.

A selection of control consoles will be located in the forecourt area of the museum, right outside the Dimming Technology Expo. Lighting consoles in operation will be:

      • Flying Pig Hog PC
      • MA Lighting grandMa (Resolution X)
      • LSC maXim & PATPad linked to Martin Show Designer (LSC)

The consoles will be connected to the REB's system via an LSC DMXchange configured as a 4-in and 1-out switcher.

Join us for a drink and a sausage sizzle

Please note, that while this event is free, the catering is being provided by the Museum caterers on a cash sale basis.
