The current series of The X Factor is well underway and, as with the last series, it’s a ratings winner for Channel 7. Filmed at The Entertainment Quarter in Sydney, the show once again uses the lighting talents of Ian Anderson, Production Lighting Director for the show.
Chameleon Touring Systems has supplied the gear and this year Ian is delighted to be using eighteen Clay Paky Alpha Beam 700 fixtures, a special and unique luminaire, conceived as an automated ACL to create parallel light beams, visible even in the brightest scenes.
“I have eighteen of the Alpha Beam 700 fixtures on the show as I needed a light that was bright, quick and punched through the rest of the fixtures,” commented Ian. “The Alpha Beam 700 certainly does that!”
Ian further remarked that the Alpha Beam 700’s have a great selection of gobos to vary the beam and thus achieving a wide variety of looks.
“The pan and tilt is so quick it’s getting back to the mirror days!” he said. “There have been a few songs during the show where all I have used is the beams and haze! They definitely can hold their own.”
The Alpha Beam 700’s small, lightweight, quick-moving body contains the most advanced technology for generating a bright beam that can be coloured and shaped at pleasure, for amazing dynamic mid-air effects.
Ian describes the Alpha Beam 700’s as a great tool for TV and that you are guaranteed to be able to see the beam from the fixture lens all the way past the lens of the camera.
“They have been extremely reliable with not one issue to be reported other than they are sometime too bright!” he concluded.
