Initiatives: gobos and massage for Light Relief Light Relief, the industry charity that supports lighting designers with personal difficulties, has announced two major initiatives to raise awareness during the PLASA 2002 show this September - one aimed at exhibitors and the other for visitors. The first - Gobos for Light Relief - is encouraging as many PLASA exhibitors as possible to use Light Relief coloured glass gobos as part of their on-stand demonstrations. "Visitors will be confronted by a large projection of the logo at the front of the hall as they arrive", explained Tony Gottelier, co-founder of Light Relief. "The idea is that by encouraging exhibitors to participate, visitors will see the same image repeated all over the exhibition - we need to raise awareness of Light Relief and this is set to make a huge impact." The idea is sponsored by Apollo Design Technology, the Indiana-based manufacturer of high quality dichroics and glass effects, who are making available a quantity of Light Relief glass gobos and any number of metal ones. To participate, simply complete an online order form on either www.internetapollo.com or www.lightrelief.org/indexform.html. Alternatively, download the artwork from the Light Relief website - the colour to match is Apollo Bikini Yellow (Rosco 312 Canary, Lee 101 Yellow). At the same time, in the gallery adjacent to the main escalator from the lobby, Light Relief will be dispensing comfort to weary visitors and exhibitors alike, by providing upper body and foot massages. Thanks to sponsor companies including PLASA and Forester Health Care, four trained masseurs will literally be dispensing light relief throughout the show - after a few hours of catching up with the industrys latest, take some time out and support Light Relief at the same time. Any companies interested in sponsorship should contact Tony Gottelier at Light Relief at the address below. www.plasa.org |

Celebrates First Annual Pro Production Tradeshow The San Diego Convention Center set the stage for the first annual Pro Production 2002 billed as The Live Event Marketplace. Nearly 2,000 attendees visited over 75 exhibitors during the inaugural three-day event and were treated to daily seminars moderated by high profile industry professionals on a variety of topics relevant to the ever-changing marketplace. "The energy on the tradeshow floor was contagious. We had every echelon of our industry represented from lighting, lasers and special effects to rigging, staging and freight forwarders to coaches - we even had a tour bus onto the tradeshow floor," said Terry Lowe, Pro Production 2002's director and publisher of PLSN. Kicking off the conference was a charity golf tournament dedicated to the memory of production manager, Rick O'Brien. Eighteen teams vied for the coveted first place trophy that was eventually captured by All Access. A good time was had by all and $1,500 was raised for the O'Brien Children Education Fund. One of the show's highlights was the presentation of The Parnelli Lifetime Achievement Award to Brian Croft, chairman of Vari-Lite Europe, Ltd. The award, presented by Patrick Stansfield, the executive director of the Advisory Board for Pro Production 2002, recognizes outstanding individuals in the live event production industry and their contributions to the field. The culmination and a most appropriate finale of the weekend conference was The PLSN Industry Jam. Thanks to the generosity of exhibitors such as Kleege, Mobolazer and Sound Image, a professional stage overlooking the San Diego Bay was constructed for a night of live music under the stars. PLSN editor Bruce Jordahl lead an all-star band of industry players that also included PLSN's very own Terry Lowe on drums. "Pro Production 2002 was a very successful first-time show for us. The floor traffic was significant and highly pertinent to our business," said Clive Forrester, CEO of All Access. "We had a lot of fun all weekend, especially on Thursday when we won the Rick O'Brien Memorial golf tournament, a title we plan to defend next year." "For our first show, I was exceptionally pleased with the number of exhibitors and attendees who commented on the excellent vibe of the show. I expect next year's to be bigger, better and even more dynamic," concluded Lowe. Bruce Jordhal, Editor of PLSN commented: "The show exceeded our expectations. We saw great traffic from industry professionals. We were especially pleased with our seminar program, which attracted the highest quality of speakers." Pro Production 2003 is scheduled for January 10 12, 2003 at the San Diego Convention Center. www.plsn.com |
